It seems like these cars are being sold too cheap.... Just looking for an idea on what people are actually selling their cars for. I saw an 03.5 yellow on AutoTrader (IC and exhaust is all I could see) for $12,300 I think it was... that seems kinda sad, doesn’t it?

extremely. it's mostly due to the fact that people don't know what it is. i believe with the release of the mazdaspeed 6 the value of the msp should've went up due to recognition. plus the first thing someone looking for a car assumes when they see all the mods listed (even if it's a stock msp, there's still 'mods' that the searcher isn't aware came stock with the car) is that the car has been raced, and probably beat up.

Sure... I understand that.
But there comes a point when you relize you want something that's a better platform. The F-series is pretty much a joke compared to other setups out there. The MSP is a great mild tuner type car, a good street car. Beyond that though it's kind of sad.
I want something that can show a little better power and performance numbers now.

Not much... there is a fully built, weisco/cp, MPI, GT28R, 3" Apex, STi 550's, FMIC, on autotrader for 12,300. which is really sad.

you're better off selling the aftermarket crap & going back to stock, because you'll get the same if not more for stock plus the additional $ for the parts

Yea. I was asking 26,500. In fact, its still listed on modifiedcartrader.com for sale. The biggest serious offer was for 21k. All the others were "oh yea, just let me talk to my dad"...

I read MSP's in still good condition w/ good miles were worth 14-15. I've got 20k in parts into mine and feel 20k is a good price for the car.....

I was thinking about doing that... I jsut dont want to spend all that time doing the de-modding.

I know... but honestly, it really is the best option to get your money back. I mean, i would hate doing it to, but I would've done it to my car if it were possible. My only problem is that everything I addt o my car, i sell the stock part to offset the expense, thus, i cant de-mod it! lol.

well 12k is pretty decent since I bought mine brand new for 16k the car is over 3years old now. I bought my second msp for 14k with 12k miles on it mint in spicy orange which was super rare to find.
You might as well part it out since banks won't lend 20k for a protege and most guys that want a protege don't have cash laying around.

It's at the point now where it's almost cheaper to sell your stock/lightly modded msp and buy a built msp for less then you owe.

i know exactly what im going to do when it is time to sell the msp... head to westlake (rich part of austin where plenty of the little kids are going to UT) and park her near the high school. i am pretty positive some kid from the school will just beg his parent to let him buy the orange sweet looking car.... i cant imagine going below 13 or 14 ever in this environment. thank god for UT

Well I dont know if it is like this for other people, but as you get a little older these things dont matter anymore. I will probably get rid of my p5 pretty soon. I have grown out of it. It is a fun car, but it has its quirks. And the msp has more. But most people are not willing to pay a premium on a car that has been modded. I know when i look for a car I look for a car that is pretty close to stock. I like doing everything to my car myself, not someone else. So I will pay a higher price for something clean, and stock that was driven by a grandma then some kid.
But I am weird. I know it doesnt make sense, you spend all of this money and you actually get less then someone else that has kept there car stock. But nobody ever said modding your vehicle was a investment tool, its not. Its a waste of money but we still do it, because it is a fun hobby. I would think you would get more money for it here then anywere else, mainly because people know your car, and know what is involved in it.
It will scare off the ho humm driver that knows nothing about the car.
UnNaturalinc
03-27-2006, 07:10 PM
I wouldn't buy a fully modded car either.
But everyone is different. Obviously I'm not going to be selling my car to someone who likes to do everything them self.

My only reason for wanting to buy it is mostly the built engine... but i'd rather do that myself too. Another reason is to part it and sell it again
so that only really doesnt belong....

Yeah... that setup sucks bigtime. It's just random pieces fit together and way longer than it needs to be.
With that IC setup, the stock exhaust, stock fuel.... I'm saying he's got a boost controller and boosting WAAAY too much or he's lying about power numbers. It doesn't even come close to adding up, even with a factory freak.

248 crank horsepower on Unichip's (Dastek) dyno is what was done on my car and what is advertised on their site.
This guy claimed 243whp. "This Vehicle was last Dyno'd to put out 243 HP to the front wheels and 234 lb/tq"
I don't know of any dyno that actually does crank hp other than the Dastek anyway.

yea i think he's lying through his teeth about 243 to the wheels unless he's boosting way to much like was previously stated and if it really is making tht much power with tht little of mods theni wouldnt want to purchase it cuz who knows how much life is left in the motor.

Funny, I do the same. Park it at the back of a parking lot, away from other cars and look back at it every 10 seconds to see it in a different angle. Kind of obsessive but in my oppinion this car is the best bang for the buck, and I also still love it as much as the day i bought it.

I think we all do that... you're just not suppose to admit to it. ;)
Best bang for your buck on a particular scale... sure, but not so much in the slightly bigger scheme of things. These engines are extremely weak compared to many others out there. If you could get 3, maybe 400hp out of the stock bottom end safely. I’d have no thought about wanting to sell my car anytime soon. :)
