Help me out!
Going crazy!
My car has this fu.... noise on the back when I'm stoping. I put on new drums and shoes and still it sounds! It does it since new! If no one knows what it is, maybe someone can tell me if I can convert the drums to discs. I have a 2000 Mazd Protege DX 1.6. Like the other ES, LX WHATEVER!
Thanks, hope someone can help me!!!!!!!!!

well it can be many things,a loose spring,a cylinder that dosent go back properly and the shoes stays grinding on the drum, adjustment to tight,or even to loose, what kind of noise is it,a grinding noise?a clunk noise?
and yes it is possible to change for disc brakes, but for how much...
if you could find a rear axel from a e.s. or even a p5,from a smashed one,it would be an easy change over...... (thumb)

Need wayyyyy more info. You pretty much can't tell with out driving or hearing the noise in person because there are so many things that can go wrong. I know I had a noise from the rears last week and it ended up being dust that got caught in the drum. Cleaned the rears up and every thing is fine. One thing you might try is get some colored chalk, rub that on your pads, put the drums on and then press the breaks while turning the drums. Take the drums off and them youll beable to see if the shoes are contacting the drums proberly. If not you sand down the high spots. That might or might not help with the noise, but it will help your breaking.

Sounds like a flute. Not a high pitch sound, is more like a low pitch sound, like a flute. It also sounds when you pull the emergency brake whyle in motion.

take some sandpaper and scuff the hell out of the drums, if the noise goes away you need your drums truned, if you already had them turned I don't know. The only other thing I could say is maybe a bad shoe.

My car is doing the same thing. My problem is that when I press the brake pedal the emergency brake cable pulls the brake lever against the hub. In a few weeks I will be removing the cable to make sure everything is working correctly and to apply grease. It is one thing to check.
