View Full Version : S-pipe help please

I sheared one of the three studs on the bottom part of the S-pipe when removing my exhaust over the weekend.
I am running the corksport exhaust and would like to find the easy way to either upgrade the S pipe or fix the problem/replace the stud (whichever is faster and easier).
With my current set up a replacement S pipe either needs to mate to the stock J-pipe or replace the entire S and J and mate to the corksport. However if there is annother way or I can somehow replace the stud easily please let me know. Current I'm running two bolts on S-pipe and the S and J connection (hand)
Any help or suggestions appreciated!

i believe corksport makes a s+j pipe and they also sell the studs

I did the same thing.
All you need to do is drill out the broken bolt and then run to the auto store and get a new one. Just bring one of the other 2 with you and tell them that's what you need.

A machine shop should be able to drill out those broken studs too.

So just remove the entire S pipe, drill the bastard out, and replace the stud? Is it threaded into the S or is it a fixed piece?

Sounds a lot easier when you say it, but it's not. Have fun pulling of that S pipe I know i sure did.

You can leave the S pipe in.
The bolt is threaded on each side. So it threads into the S pipe and then there are threads for the bolt once you have the J pipe back on.
Make sure to get a good drill bit!

yeah stick with drilling out the bolt. maybe a craftsman broken bolt/screw remover will work? i used the screw remover to remove a rusted screw i had rounded out. worked like a charm.
btw, if you decide to replace the s-pipe in the future, keep in mind that you'll need to buy replacement studs. the stock ones that hold the s-pipe to the turbo used compressed nuts that tend to strip the studs whe you remove them.

all good input, thanks guys.
I guess I'll try to leave the S-pipe in and then drill the stud out from below. Doesn't sound like much fun but probably less painful than taking out the S.

I'll check on this as well before begining the project.

Vic that is classic. I think I'll avoid that mess. I'll try like hell to do it w/o removing the pipe for no good reason. If I had a pipe to upgrade to I'd go for it now but no one has them in stock or that will fit accordingly.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that. If it does I'd absolutely like to have the part. I'll know after next weekend most likely. Thank you for the kind offer.

Been there, done that, the removal and installation, twice, and a third time is coming. I'm just happy that I put Street Units stud kit on the turbo so taking S-Pipe off from now on will be a walk in the park... oh how nice it is to have the stud kit on there. www.*************** (http://www.***************) (if your going to remove your s-pipe, stud the turbo).

for those of you who say "drill it out" did you do it with the S-pipe on the car?

i personally didnt do it, but i would think that all the vibrations from the drill cant's be good for the turbo internals....

my car feels like a massage chair with the mounts. I can't even imagine the vibration on the exhaust under partial load. I doubt the drill going in there is going to doom the turbo but you never know.
I'm still curious if anyone did it with the S-pipe in place from under the car.

well if someone were to use an extractor and only drill a pilot hole, it shouldn't be all that bad... just my thoughts.

Yes...I did it from under the car with the S still attached. Turbo was not harmed at all.
