damn man i know the feeling. engine blew in mid december, still haven't driven it since. seen her like 3 or 4 times. car should be ready to go hopefully by mid april. that's when i estimate i can pay off the balance on the engine work anyways. but yeah, it's been a lonnnggggggg time and i been going nuts for the last 3 months

any exaust? i will be looking for one soon and a unichip too :) but those hold value better than exhaust so i think exhaust is more in my area

Sorry to hear man, all these stories have scared me into buying a MAM block, guess that's a good thing though.
Good luck with whatever car you get after this.

i had mine for 2.5 years..i had full faith until my fuel pump went,cd player,LSD and blown motor all since the end of jan..thats when i realized its time to call it quits on this car.. i dont beat on it and it only had 36k on it
RallyeRedSi
03-20-2006, 03:37 PM
i had a bad fuel pump, sub woofer went went wack, head unit died, had my clunck fixed twice gonna go for the 3rd, my stock pipes popping off, been towed 4 times, i still don't understand how your motor blew, too much boost?
sweetlou69
03-20-2006, 03:41 PM
nah was only boostin 7psi w.many mods and the MPI tuner on a very consertative tune

03-20-2006, 03:44 PM
if you are at all open to the idea, i can get you a used engine for far cheaper than $4000. you have spent an awful lot of money on the car to give up on her now.
sweetlou69
03-20-2006, 03:50 PM
nah ive given up on the MSP and im gonna be movin on
sweetlou69
03-20-2006, 03:51 PM

ouch.... that sux (boom07) the thought has crossed through my head of if/when my msp blows up, what would i do? i would probably go with upgraded/rebuilt motor personally, its just too fun of a car to get rid of imo. however, good luck with whatever choice you make

change of heart? well after lookin at my car all week just sittin there w/a blown motor i admired how sweet it looked everyday..then i got the idea of just replacin the motor and keepin it the way it is? so now i am torn between the idea of puttin it back to stock and gettin rid of it or puttin it the used motor and continue to mod it? i cannot make up my damn mind
03MzdSpdSTP
03-26-2006, 11:22 AM
well obviouly the mpi tune wasn't conservative. Engines just don't throw rods, plenty of people running unichip with out problems running 10+ psi.
sweetlou69
03-26-2006, 11:26 AM
tru but at the same time weve also seen people blow motors at 8+9 psi

03-26-2006, 11:38 AM
jus keep the msp... its a rare breed, there rarely seen, specially yours cuz it looks awesome... you'll regret it afterwards... u gonna buy a car everybody see's and there gonna say, o its that one car yea my boy has one jus like it but in blue... u know? i never ever heard that from anybody with my msp, maybe u'll hear that once or twice a year, but as u see its rarely...

You sure the MPI didnt lose it's tune, because of the stock ecu trying to change the tune back ?

wel if it did lose its tune the stock tune should be safe though right?

03-26-2006, 08:25 PM
no the mpi clamps the signal so the stock tune in boost means nothing. thats y u have a wideband :)

I dunno about that, i know for a fact you have to keep adjusting the #'s,even after you get tuned(every so often). but yea, you were boosting 7, so wtf. I really don't know why it blew.

03-27-2006, 07:08 AM
a new motor will only cost 600$ if you do all the work yourself use a 2.0 protege engine
Mutmatt
03-27-2006, 08:14 AM
parts man... if u are going to rebuild do it right! used quality and build it like a god of all engines! 20+ psi here he comes :( no for me tho
mspeedpro
03-27-2006, 03:11 PM
how much would it cost to let a shop pull out a blown engine and just drop in a used 2.0?? I've wondered several times what I would do if it blew... I guess buy a used motor and rebuild back to stock, sell off the car and the few aftermarket parts i have and go a whole new direction... tsx? a4? gli?

yea ur adjusting the tune over the stock one. so it doenst matter what map the stock ecu is on cause u need to check ur wideband is waht i mean
D-rock240
03-27-2006, 08:49 PM
Yeah, I'd say keep it. Now you can build the engine right (like Mazda should have done in the first place) and I would keep it just because you've spent a lot setting up the car for your own style. You'll just have to start from scratch again with another car.

detonation? Overall rod weakness? Boost spike? Do you have an FCD?
Pick your poison man. Do you have the MPI datalogs from when it blew? Were the A/F ratios OK before? Any signs earlier?
Aynways, sucks to hear.

as soon as our cars know you've modified something it turns into a ticking time bomb. It probably developed a crack in the rod when you put the hood on ;)
I agree that they are rare and look sweet, & therefore worth puting in an engine that's built right. Don't skimp on the rebuild or you'll likely regret it. If you have the $, you should seriously consider getting the better block/rods/pistons so you don't even have to think about blowing it again.

what's this mean? you have any idea on how to tune? then don't make a blanket statement. I have been running 12-16psi+ since 03 with no problems... so agian, don't make a blanket statement unless you know what you are talking about.
