Sooooo, St. Patty's Day night, I went outside to find that my beautiful mica black MSP had been egged.... yeah... EGGED! I think it was just some random person driving around being dumb that threw it out the window... judging by the way it splattered... come on! Who would throw an egg at such a hot car??? (deadhorse) But anyways, cleaned my car at the carwash and I now notice that there is a golf ball size circle of paint that is chipping and starting to come off.... egg is bad news! It had splattered all the way up the driver window, all over my driver mirror, and some down the side of the car..... Anybody have any suggestions? Im thinking I should be able to buff it out but Im looking for other opinions! If you have anything PM me or post a reply :) that would be much help! Thanks guys!

You could have etching in the paint, that is, the acid in the egg after this long a time will have eaten into and maybe thru the clear coat. If that is the case you have to evalute the extent of the damage to the clear. Some surface etching you can remove by buffing and polishing and waxing. However, if the etching has eaten thru the clear you can only make it less visible, or it may even need to be repainted.

That is exactly what I am thinking... cause when you look at the spot where the egg hit, the paint is eaten through- like, i can even see white beneath the black... it looks like a bunch of miniature rock chips or something... I dont know what I am going to do quite yet, but Im definately considering repainting... even if just the door was repainted it definately wouldnt exactly match the rest of the car and Im going to be picky about it. At least it gives me the chance to paint it a different color.... hmmmm.

dude, my ES was egged in my own freakin garage at my apartment complex. some dickhead who lives here. I don't understand why, i'm very considerate, i turn down my music when i'm pulling in, i dont rev hard i dont chirp, i give no reason for such a recourse yet two days after getting mine washed there it was, one dead in the middle of the windshield, another on the roof and another in the driver quarter pannel.

Dude your not buffing that mark out....It not whats in the egg that causes the damage ..like everyone thinks..(boom03) ...Its the shell itself that causes the damage. When the egg hits the car, the shell breaks and becomes many different chisel points and actually chips the paint out in the circular pattern you see....The only fix is a panel repaint.....Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is how it is.

*BTW* Yes egg can cause etching damage after a PROLONGED period on the paint....but usually it does not cause permanent damage if removed in a reasonable time frame....Its the shell...just remember that.

At least it gives me the chance to paint it a different color.... hmmmm. If you are going to be picky about the door...Good luck with a color change...10x more work and a hell of a lot of money....I have built many a "TRUE" show car and I am one of the pickiest people I know....If your car is black Mica...It won't be too hard to match nicely....A good painter will repair the area and blend the panel before an entire CC is applied to the panel...then the entire side will be buffed to match...To the untrained eye...A good job will not be visible. hmmmm... carbon fiber door???? he he, i dont know, im just going to live with it for now... we'll see what happens. Were going to get a guy me and my buddy kno who does a hell of a good buff job to go at it... we'll see what happens... if not, ill try to find a place to fix it... there are a couple of door ding scratches on that side of the car anyways (thanks to the previous owner may i add) so that might be an option.... :)
