Hey everyone, I have like $700 to spend, I am trying to get a GB started on a sport20 bumper - so there is part of it, and I am trying to get a mazdaspee/racingbeat axle back.... So what else would be a good addition? Maybe an intake? I am not boosting....maybe next year... I would really appreiciate your opinions

I wouldnt bother with an intake if your going to boost. I would get the entire exhaust done to it can help out when you are boosted. Also maybe lowering springs. I cant tell in the pic if your dropped or not.

Mayeb a spoiler. Well if your going to go get brakes done, I say get brembo cross drilled/slotted rotors and axxis metal master pads. Same setup I have and my braking power is alot better. Also maybe get ss brake lines.

Intake/header/exhaust if you can get all for under 700, if not then just header/exhaust. Brakes won't help you slow down if you're not going that fast to begin with, and the cross-drilled or slotted ones are nice, but wait until you need them and it will feel more justifiable.

I have the KVR slotted rotors and KVR carbon fibre brake pads. I really like the stopping power and feel of them.

I have the same on my fronts, and plan on putting them on my rears. I do notice a difference in stopping power as well.

Just buy these and sell your stock 5 lug stuff to a DX owner :)

SS brake lines would be useless for you. And go with KVR xdrilled. unplated.

Actually your 99 is a 3rd gen so these would bolt right up. 99-00's were just cosmetically(sheetmetal) different than the 01-03 cars from what I've gathered.
But yeah, if you hit the buy it now that would be the whole $700.. but the reserve is set a good bit lower than that so feel free to bid away. :)

Hey man... I'd go for either apperance mods now and performance later, or vice versa, not a mix. I only say this because when you do that, you tend to lose your focus with your car and nothing actually gets done. If a $700 budget is all you've got at the moment, I'd say get the Sport-20 bumper and grill, which will put you at about $450+ and get it painted and installed. You'll probably be out of money by then, but FYI, the side skirts can be found at www.mazdastuff.com (MP3 skirts) or you can pull them off a Protege5 at a junkyard, and repaint them, they're identical. As for the rear lip, you have a lot of choices depending on where you want to go with the car. You can get the MP3 lip off the website I already mentioned, or you can get a different lip from ViS, Corkport.com, or a couple other places. I got my entire Sport-20 kit put on for just under $1,300 (I got it done all at once), so it's not a cheap investment, but IMO, it's entirely worth it!

As for performance mods for $700, you can get an intake off eBay for about $35-50. That's where I got mine from and it works exactly the same as any overpriced Injen or AEM. Go to JCWhittney or Jegs.com or something of that matter and pick yourself out the muffler of your choice. If you want to go a little ricey and loud, pick up one of the tube-like mufflers with a flamed tip (uck). If you want a more OEM look, but still the noise of a good exhaust system, I got the Dynomax Super-Turbo muffler and it's AMAZING! Next, take this newly purchased muffler and go to a performance exhaust shop. Have them custom fabricate you an exhaust out of either 2.25" or 2.5" (I have 2.5") gavalized steel and install everything. Hell, if you're feeling extra adventurous, get them to install a high-flow Cat as well... IMHO, you do not need a stainless steel exhaust, sure it looks pretty, but its under the car, you're not gonna see it... ever. I got my 2.5" Cat-Back exhaust done for $138.66, including installation, and it sounds better than anything else I've heard coming out the back of a 4-cyl car (although I am biased).

If you have done it right so far, you'll have about $500 left to play with. With that money, I'd get a set of headers ($250-ish), the J-Spec Cams from corksport ($180 each), and then call it a day. If you plan on boosting in the future, I'd skip the headers and buy some Brembo slotted rotors. I would stay away from the cross-drilled because tiny cracks tend to form around the holes. The rotors ran me $115 shipped, but plan on paying about $150 on whichever one you get. With all of this, you should have, if you're lucky, $100 left to save for your next set of mods, probably Tokico HP (or illumina) shocks and Eibach (or Racing Beat) springs.

I hope this helped you out.

that site is awsome... found the rest of what i was looking for.... FYI (Anyone who comments) I already have exhaust done from the header back -thunder header with corksport powerseries, headlights are blacked out, rims and tires, tokico hps with eibach pro kit and awr front adjustable endlinks. I have yet to paint my calipers and drums - since now I am leaning towards doing the brakes rotors and pads.... Maybe the KVR with the CAD plating and some performance pads...

Good to see you found everything okay.

As I mentioned, try and find the Brembos, they're the best you can get IMO. You can get them either cross-drilled, slotted, or a combination of the two. I have the mix and they stop like a motha. They also come zinc plated to protect from corrosion. Whenever I get my next set, I'm going to go for the straight slotted deals. Mostly because of the aforemetioned cracking (which I have noticed on the surface) and if you notice on most all race cars, they don't bother with cross-drilled but just slotted rotors... unless they're carbon-ceramic! Good luck pal, and if you do join the Sport-20 club, I expect to see pictures posted in the "Sport-20 Pic Thread."
