yes and no.. LOL you can but its a peta. I just swapped engines in my 2000ES. The biggest problem is theres only one motor mount, the other three are actually transmission mounts. So unless you have a jack supporting the engine, its gotta come out to. You can swap engines without removing the trans.

All you have to do is remove the crossmember bar from under the trans. Then unbolt the passenger side axle from the engine. remove the starter. Put a jack under the engine and one under the trans. disconnect any and all wires, cables, hoses fromt he trans. remove the axles from the trans... unbolt the motor and trans mounts. Unbolt the trans from the engine. now for the hard part... you gotta find away to seperate the two without knocking the engine off the jack... your best bet in all this is to have the front of the car on stands and drop the trans from the bottom..

it'd be a lot easier just to rent or borrow, if you dont own, an engine hoist and pull the the engine and the trans out through the top and then seperate them on the ground. re-assembly would be a lot eaiser that way too... trust me.. if I ever need to replace the engine or trans again... I'm taking BOTH out at the same time and doing it all outside the car LOL

sorry If i'm not much more of help on this.. I just replaced the engine, didnt mess with the trans too much..

(braindead Yeah I got the bright idea that leaving the trans in the car while swapping engines was going to make it easier LOL oh well
