Nissan Will Build Heavy-Duty Titan Pickup

Date posted: 03-14-2006

DETROIT — Nissan will build a heavier-duty version of its Titan pickup in order to expand the lineup and compete head-to-head with Detroit automakers.

Nissan plans to redesign its big Titan pickup in mid-2009 and according to a report in Automotive News, a heavy-duty version will be part of the redesign. A diesel engine option will be part of the upgrade, but there's no word yet on who will supply the new engine. The truck will target domestic three-quarter-ton trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado 2500, Dodge Ram 2500 and Ford F-250.

Toyota later this year will begin assembling its redesigned 2007 Tundra pickup, and executives have said the company is studying the feasibility of adding a heavy-duty model to compete with similar products from Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford and GMC.

What this means to you: It will only be a matter of time before Nissan and Toyota have full-size trucks to compete head-to-head with the domestics in every category.

Not really ^. Big John from Home Town USA will probably never buy an import.

big john's an idiot then. the big 3 make some damn good trucks, but it's foolish not to take a look at a titan. nissan did not screw around with that thing...it pretty much dusts the other half-tons out there. looks better, too.

diesel heavy-duty titan? i am so there.

I keep reading how good the Titan is. Is it really that good? I haven't driven one or anything, nor am I in the market for a pickup, but I am amazed at the claims made of this truck; like it is the next coming or something.

hometown johnny usa may not buy it, but most of those heavier duty trucks are bought by companies (contractors, construction, hvac, box/dump trucks etc...) and i can see a lot of those buying imports b/c of the better quality product..... isn't that why we all drive imports?

I see more Titans on the road then I do anything else lately. There is 5 Titans in my family alone.

My problem with the Titan and other Nissan vehicles their interior all have that slippery shiny plastic.

apparently the first year of the titan left somehting to be desired as far as fit/finish.

i don't think the tired old "imports are higher quality" argument holds any water when it comes to full-size trucks, if it still holds water at all. US companies might build mediocre small sedans, but they build high-quality trucks.

the titan might be more capable than any other half-ton, but i don't know that its quality level is up to par yet. i'd still buy one in a heartbeat, though.

good news. I was wondering when this would happen. I knew it would, just didn't know when. I love my dads Titan. Best looking and best performing non-specialty truck. Only thing I dont like about it is that they dont offer a manual. but ohh well. killer truck.

no they dont offer a manual but they are the only 1/2 ton right now with a 5speed auto with shift on the fly

yes dodge says its a 5speed but its more of a 4speedwith a weird set up so they say its a 5speed

agreed, ford makes the best trucks you can buy as far as I'm concerned. Their cars pretty much suck donkey dong tho.

the fusion is pretty sweet...get the 4cyl sel...and i bet the hiboost kit for the 6 would bolt right up...granted, you could have some bumper issues, but it's the same motor that the 6 has.

that's because it's the same car.

oh, well...either way. I'd buy a F-250 or 350 before I buy a Nissan Titan HD.

What does this have to do with the Nissan Titan HD?

the fusion has its own headlights and grille, too; entirely different vehicle. ;)

ford f-series...best selling truck 29 years running...do you honestly think ford is worried?

probably not. but then again, they weren't worried back when toyota and honda started selling "those funny-lookin' little cars," either. after all, why would anyone buy one of those?

i don't think anyone has argued that the titan signals doom for the F-series. but for someone to say that no one will buy it b/c it's an import is ridiculous.

I bought one over the f-150 simply for the power and the fact it was a much better bang fort he buck.

it's all good in my book. i will be buying a diesel in the future and the more options the better. i kinda like the liberty diesel that's not available here in california. i love diesels. i find that ford has more problems than most. i've had 6 friends with ford trucks ranging from f-150 to f-450 and all have had problems with them. most recently, my friend's f-350s transfercase is toast, so he's suck in 2wd.

in my opinion the best diesel right now is dodge with the cummins but I have yet to see nissans diesel so I may change my mind on that one.
