Okay, I need some advice. I have finally gotten enough mmoney together to get an cat-back system for my pro5. Now I know about all of them out there but I don't know which one to get. I am leaning towards Magnaflow. Any suggestions would be good. I am looking for a good deep (non ricer) sound that doesn't drone on the highway. And I am looking for places to buy at a good price. So any ideas would be extremely appriciated (help)

If you search the P5 section for exhaust, I think there are about 764656320498973 threads already about exhausts.
If you do not want any drone, I know that the Racing Beat does not, I own it. There are a TON of others that do.
Wanna hear the racing beat? click here (http://s93052172.onlinehome.us/videos/exhaust.mov). The "pops" were caused by the gaskets leaking, which is gone after I replaced them all. But that is the sound, and it is really nice on the freeway. My wife even approves!
I am also running a header and intake too.

Seriously though if you're not looking to turbo it, go for the magnaflow. the sound and fit is incredible. Racing Beat is also nice, but I like the growls of the Magnaflow better.

I was anti-RB just becausce it seems like what everyone has but now that I have one myself I know why. It's totally awesome. With my ractive header it isn't even loud!

personally i dont like the rb, its just to quiet, and no real performance gain. Thats why im going with the Corksport, ive heard numerous videos i have of what it sounds like and it's great. Plus only reason it gets loud is if you have no cat's so to cure that, im just gonna install a high-flow cat after i install my header.
and to tell you the truth if i had a p5 id go with the megan, ive heard it and it sounds sexy.

i gots to put it down for the RB! it makes our cars sound like a high-end sports car, not a race car.

I like that the Racing beat has a finished looking tip, not a thin metal coffee can tip. It almost makes the car look like it came with it, rather than aftermarket. I like that.

not that it will make a big difference or anything, but what kind of gain would I be getting from these. 3-4whp?

maybe. i think the RB was reported to be like 6 or so, but I did not notice a lot. might dyno this summer for fun. A header gives more power though.

Ok, I'm gonna have to go with Racing Beat. Up until today I had stock + Mazdaspeed Axleback, and it sounded great but droned a bit on the highway (got old after an hour or 2). The racing beat sounds great, and OMG! I can hear myself think inside my car cruising on the freeway now! I've got to take it to an exhaust shop to re-weld the tip (the RB was made solely for the sedan, but if you cut the tip off, and the pipe b/w the muffler and the tip, and weld the tip back on, it'll fit)

There is a RB catback available for a p5. You're talking about the RB axleback, which I've only seen for the sedan.

hmmm, I didn't know they made a cat back for the p5 lol. My bad. Well, the one I've got is from a sedan. Fortunately the tip was already cut. All I have to do is get it welded back on.

Zath: how does the magnaflow sound on the highway?? I might just get a custom midpipe with the MF muffler...

Depends how fast you're going. I'm in an auto, and at 80 mph, I'm around 4k rpm's. It drones pretty bad sitting there like that. It's not so bad that my stock stereo w/sub won't drown it out. but no stereo = slight headache.
It doesn't bother me at all, since I drive 70-75 usually on the highway. No problems there.
There was a forum member here who put on two magnaflow mufflers - he had a shop replace the resonator with a full muffler. Apparently it doesn't sound so bad after that. But I don't know what happened to him...

I think for the RB it was under 500 shipped.. like 485 or something? I ordered it directly from Racing Beat.

I have to agree with Zath here as I have the Magnaflow. He is right in the aspect that it drones - but only at higher speeds like 70 mph and above. Also like Zath said, with the radio on you won't really notice. I can vouch for this as I just drove 5+ hours yesterday back to school with the radio on sitting around 72 mph and it was fine. The only time I really noticed it was in between songs. Besides once that baby gets warmed up the sound is amazing (thumb) ! I have had many people compliment the sound too - they said they didn't expect a car like the P5 to sound so manly (first) .

Well, I am married, and my wife is is approving my my exhaust. If it droned, it would probably not be on my car very long. I have had loud cars in the past that droned. I am done with that. :)

I love the growl at idle. sounds and feels so nice.

I just put in the RB catback in my car about a week ago. Which is better? well, I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I can tell you that the RB DOES NOT drone at all on the freeway, which is quite increadible. It sounds deep, throaty, made my intake sound nicer, and I feel that the engine is alot more responsive in the higher gears. Not sure how much of a real gain in power, but certainly feels like there was a decent gain in combo with my SRI, especially while shifting higher than second gear.
I'm very happy with it, its still breaking in and sounds louder (was pretty subtle when I first installed it) and nicer everytime I drive. It looks and feels like it belongs on the car, and fitted on like a glove.
I bought it from nsnmotorsports.com for nearly $400 shipped, and came to my door within a week. I highly recomend them and the exhaust. (first)
Good luck in your decision, just my experience. Talking about the exhaust makes me want to drive, I love it.

I love the sound at startup when the engine is already warmed up. I always manage to get a few looks as most people are surprised because I don't have a huge fart-can poking out from under my rear bumper.

Yeah at idle with the Ractive header and MS axleback it was a beautiful sound. 6 hours on the highway to travel back home on break from college drowned out any of the fun of that exhaust note. PAINFUL on the highway. The RB with the same header is quite pleasant, quieter I think than the MS axleback with the rest of the exhaust stock.
Our cars might be slow but at least they sound nice.

I have the MSP version of the magnaflow I got from a forum member for $150 shipped.
Look around, deals can be had!
The MSP version is basically just missing the resonator before the muffler. There is some freeway drone, but I do lots of long car trips and it has not seriously bothered me. The gains were definetly noticable with intake and headers.

Two of my favourite things with the magnaflow... nice low, deep tone and growl, and it tucks up nicely under the car. IMHO, the only time - if ever - that you should see any part of the exhaust, other than the tip, is if you have the serious power to back it up. To me, a fully visible exhaust, other than looking like it simply doesn't fit and was a hack job, is very tacky, something you'd expect to find on a ricer's car.
If you mate it to a header, it will get louder, but not obscenely so. It does drone some on the highway at the higher rpm's, but nothing like the MS axleback does - that setup is horrid for drone.

I love my racing beat exhaust: nice deep throaty growl but not obscenely loud. I'd recommend you go to a meet and listen to the various exhausts from different folks, that'll give you the best idea of the pros and cons, especially since people look for different things in their exhaust.

another nice thing about the magnaflow is that its 3 parts clamp together rather than bolt. This allows for nearly infinite adjustability so you can get it to sit just right. coupled w/the header and kartboy hangers and it's a great exhaust.
Obviously, either one will work well. It comes down to which you prefer.
