Volvo is conducting cold-weather testing of a prototype minivan in northern Sweden, according to Automotive News. The car is reportedly based on the Volvo S80 sedan, Ford Galaxy minivan and Ford S-Max crossover. Recently, we pointed to an editorial suggesting Volvo should build a van (http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/02/14/should-volvo-build-a-minivan/) to compete with the Mercedes-Benz R-Class and future Volkswagen and BMW offerings.

Why not, it's Volvo. They've got a reputation for being the safest cars on the road. If they make the safest minivan on the road and give it a turbocharged powerplant, then you've got a best seller.
