well my 2nd engine is probably about to blow up... its making this real bad tapping noise, mechanic said it was probably a rod bearing. so now im afraid to drive it.. i'm probably gonna drive it home and let it sit in my driveway until i can figure out what to do with it. I don't know if i should get a cheap beater car, and save for a fully built motor from mental addiction motorsports.. or should i work on parting out my car and trade it in for something new? either way i can't even trade it in the way it is. advice or tips or anything at this point would be good.

PS: sorry cwill i really wanted to donate towards your LSD fund... but it looks like i have to put my tax return, plus a lot more, towards something else.

edit: also there must be some kind of pre-existing problem to make my motors just crap out.. i mean my car only has 38,000 miles on it.. and i've never gone higher than stock boost. i have had oil level problems.. i don't know if it leaks or if its burning... or maybe someone is stealing it? lol. it just doesn't make sense. maybe it's my turbo or something?

i dont think they will work on my car with the stuff i have done.. they gave me a hard enough time when the engine bay was stock.. i really don't think a dealership would give me a 3rd motor under warranty

what did you have under your hood that made them tell you they weren't going to warranty it? And more importantly, how are you driving to blow 2 engines at stock boost?

Do you change your oil frequently? How many miles do you have on this 2nd engine? If they put a brand new engine in, there shouldn't be any rod bearing issues unless they rebuilt the old one. If you are having oil level problems you have a leak or you are burning oil somewhere.

please don't be mad at me, sp33d, but, I think I know what the pre-existing problem is... .lol lol.... In the computer business we call it "end-user error"

the tapping noise could be anything from a loose mani cover to blown donut gasket to probably 10 other things. Being your second engine, you already know what the engine-killing noise sounds like. I say to drive it conservatively, shift at 4500rpm, don't dump the clutch, etc. Then, after doing that for a while, hot dog it to about 6000rpm. If the noise become more intense/loud, then consider looking into the MAM or SU block.

p.s. and why aren't you on the statewide meet's list yet????

ROD BEARING? either you redline it for way too long or there is some oiling issues. When you got the 2nd motor put it did you break it in right? Breaking in a new motor is important.

What weight are you using and what kind of oil. is it done professionally? Your mechanic is making an assumption...maybe its not the case...who knows. It could be alot of thing jsut from diagnoising it from a "noise." Was it runnign okay after the 2nd motor install?

Damn shift at 4500 RPM is considered conservative? I shift at 3500 RPM 90% of the time.

Tapping is not typically a rod bearing. Spun bearings will make a slight knock that will go away at a certain rpm then come back at higher rpm. There is always a specific resonant frequency that the rod will ride soley on one side of the bearing, the thrust side and then as you pass that frequency (rpm) it will start floating again, allowing it to move back and forth.

Several people have complained about excessive lifter tappet noise, where is the noise coming from? Get a mechanic's stethescope and listen to the case and then the head. A lifter that is not getting oiled properly is pretty easy to hear.

Wait, I should bounce off the rev-limiter each time I shift?

it basically started out only doing it when i had my foot on the gas.. and when it was in between the 3k - 4k rpm range. it didnt make the noise when it was revving down.. only when my foot was on the gas. it's coming from either the block.... or possibly my flywheel is warped or something? i can kinda feel it in my clutch pedal and in the shifter
