View Full Version : BPV Leaking Under Idle or Bad Guage?

Hey guys. My msp started doing something strange yesterday. When I first start the car, the vacuum reading on my boost guage is sticking at 12, when it used to go to about 19 and 21 once it warmed up. The car is not running any different than before, so I doubt that it is a normal vacuum leak. The strange thing is that as soon as I go into even 1 PSI of boost and let off the gas, it returns to a vacuum of 21.

At first I thought it was just the guage screwing up and sticking, but due to how it returns to normal after I force the BPV to open and close, I am not sure. Of course it could still be the guage and the extra force on the needle from dropping out of boost is causing it to get past the sticking point. I'm really not sure and have not had much time to play with it.

Has anyone had something like this happen? Anyone have a guage do this or had their stock BPV leak under idle? Any suggestions?

my stewart warner gauge has stuck before and i dont have any leaks or problems. i guess just cheap gauges...

If the car is not running any different then I would assume that it's the gauge. Just think, without it you wouldn't even know right? Autometer gauge I presume?

Yeah, it's an Autometer and yeah, if I did not watch the guages closely I would have never known. After I thought about it for awhile, I remembered that a few weeks ago, the guage some how got condensation inside the face.

I am thinking that the condensation probably has something to do with it. I guess that it is possible that the moisture caused some corrosion or rust inside the guage making it more difficult for the needle to move.

I guess I'll have to try swapping the guage out and see if that solves the problem.
