My daughters '93 just quits on her. At first i though it was the fuel filter but after R & R it still does it. The car will re-start after a few minutes. It seems that if you try and crank it right away the starter turns very slowly and will not start. But when it does re-start, it cranks normally and operates with no other problems until it does it again. There is no pattern to the failure. The local Mazda dealer says that after they ran a diagnostic on it that i need a new distributer. Has anyone had this problem? Any sugestions?

is it a V6 or 4cyl?? if its a 2.5 V6, a reman (thats the only way mazda makes them) disty should run you around $310.00 There is a $50 core charge, but if you have the dealer do the work, they take the old one regardless so you wont see that charge... DO NOT buy an aftermarket distributor for this car.. you'll end up putting a factory one in it within a few months.. if you want to do the work yourself, http://www.protegegarage.com has them for less than the dealer... :) or PM Captain KRM P5... he'd be the one to tell you how much they cost from protegegarge... :) Thankx for the info........you have been a great help. I can do the work myself with no problem. Why do the after market ones fail after a few months? I will contact Protegarage for prices. Thankx again.

when my mazda did this to me it turned out to be the control module in the distibuter. It was about 180 dollars, I had a friend give me one for free, so all it cost me was my time. extremmaly easy fix

Yeah, it's the module. It overheats and craps out. I have an MX3 and one day it just went with no warning. Took out the timing belt and left me stranded on the side of the road.

My 94 mx6 did the samething. Just overheaded one day.
