I am thinking of soliciting my suppliers to see if they'd be willing to fab up an FMIC for the newly released mazdaspeed6. I know the MS6 following is not huge on this forum, but i'd like to get a feeler for what kind of response this kit might get in general with the ms6 owners.

Any updates...?

I'm hearing HiBoost, CP-E, and at least one other company. But nothing more than what CP-E has available.

CP-E also has no experience, that I know of, with IC setups. Others who have experience will most likely provide a better product at a better price than what CP-E Would charge. But then again, it is too early to tell.

If Corky Bell is making a front mount set up, it'll be an effiecient piece to be sure.

Corky is well known for his intercooler designs....

ok i am going to move ahead with a new volunteer and new company for this FMIC but i plan on using a BEGi core, which you can check out at BellIntercoolers.com

i should have a prototype worked out in the next two weeks and have seen shots of the CPE kit and hope to match or improve upon it.

to be honest a top mount remake would only serve 1 purpose more airspace... is it going to seal like the factory one... if not then it is worse than the stock one... make a fmic costing 1k cough cough cost of material in the 400 range you could buy a honda kit for around 750+/- a few bucks with spearco fmic, pipes, bov, injectors, inj. controller... lucky i can fab everything...lol take about 6hrs or so if all parts were in hand. but good luck with that

The liquid to air top mount being made on my car will fit all 3 vehicles.

yes it will seal as good if not better than the factory one. our SMIC replacement for the mazdaspeed protege gave gains of 20+ hp on a stock vehicle. we fully expect to show gains with a TMIC replacement and will happily dyno it - on an otherwise stock car - to see if there are or not.

i have sold several hundred different styled and branded FMIC kits for $900+ in this market so i am not too worried about, thanks for the well wishing though. there are kits for these vehicles that retail for over $1200. i don't think it needs to be said, this is not the honda market, and manufacturers and resellers do not do nearly enough volume to price like that. this is why for example piston and rod manufacturers charge me twice the cost of you average import piston and rod combo. spearco cores are not nearly all they are cracked up to be, having tested more than a few varieties.

i am glad you can fab your own kits and i totally respect people with that ability. will you also be mandrel bending the aluminum? will you also be temperature and flow testing your setup?

Captain KRM P5
09-09-2006, 12:10 AM
it should also be noted that pricing right now is a guesstimate at best. if i can come in with a high quality product at a better, lower price than that, i will. i'd rather estimate high than low and disappoint people. ask anyone here about my character and credibility. i started here as just another protege owner and I have never been here to gouge or rob my fellow mazda owners.

makes sense but yes flow test is a must i would never use anything but mandrel. funny you ask because some people dont and well enough said...lol i didnt think the tmic would seal thats what i would worry about its nice to get a newer tmic but save the dough and go fmic. im going to have a guy make me a manifold i could but those take alot more time and he has it. alienauto.com lives nearby me. look at his work you wouldnt be dissapointed.

im more of aluminum guy and the fmic would take about 4 hrs to fab up get the curves in the shortest route with the least bends and should be alot better than stock. dont know the ic i want to use yet i gotta see what will bolt right up without having to drill holes or anything making brackets are not a prob when ever i get it done i will send you a pic might be a while im busy as crap that dont make me money it costs if it was makin money i wouldnt be here typing...lol

Way to go Ken for pioneering a "mass market" TMIC and FMIC solution.

We should have quite the selection available shortly.

top mount would heat soak easy since its sitting on top of the hot engine, front mount is the way to go on this car. Least on the subarus top mount works because of the boxer config and a hood scoop.

the hood and grille are designed in a way on this car as an air director to help keep things cool, part of the reason for the hood bulge and more open front end.

we'll be testing for heak soak and efficiency loss as well as power gains when the final piece is ready

the TMIC will be a breeze to uninstall/reinstall. the FMIC kit will take some time uninstall/reinstall simply because of the piping involved and the removal of the bumper to mount the intercooler core.

yeh but you sit in traffic for 5mins or idle and it'll be soaked no matter how thick it is. Even the fenders are hot to the touch so, imagine how hot it gets under the hood.
