So I just broke the LSD for the 3rd time... has anyone done or thought of having the tranny and lsd cryo treated? I know it's a big thing in a DSM world but never heard anyone mention it for the MSP. If this isn't gonna work, is the Quaife LSD worth the money? I can't afford replacing another tranny... and I only plan on making more power. Any help would be appriciated.

A Quaife is going to run you about $1400 +/-, and you can get a factory diff and beef up the welds for half that or less. Don't even think about welding your broken LSD, that's already been tried with dismal results. I have a Quaife now but only because I got a steal on it. My welded factory worked great.
If you're going to keep trying to make more power, you're going to have to figure out something with the tranny. You could always swap in a Level 10 automatic.
From what I hear, cryo treating isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'll defer to the experts on that though.

how the hell are you breaking all these LSDs? Do you to clutch drop launches? Burnouts?

Thanks for the info. I feather the clutch when launching, but when the tires are warm any wheel spin turns to wheel hop. The dragstrip I go to isn't the best so the track is a little rough in the staging lanes. When I warm up the tires it hops alot, but if I don't warm them I get horrible 60fts. I don't know, just looking for a solution besides stop drag racing. Thanks again

I am going to get the LSD, and tranny I have coming, welded and cryoed to beef it all up. It should definatly make it stronger. Shit, the welding alone should help you out.

quit replacing the stock diff and just the the quaife, its designed for the stress. The only problem is that the bolts are on backorder.

you need to stop make the tires hop, practice a better launch...other things will help like AWR mounts, suspension support and the tires used.

Oh I know. I've got AWR mounts and excellent Hankook Ventus RS2 Z212 tires. Suspension wise it's the stock shocks with Eibach prokit springs. I didn't know the quaife was available at the time I broke the second one or I would have bought it. I'm just looking for an alternative to spending the 1400 because I was planning on forging the motor and upgrading the turbo system soon. Thanks for the input though everyone.

Stop wheelhopping. I highly doubt its the power thats causing them to break.

I'd go with the welded factory unit. Feel free to PM me or Turfburn for more details if you choose that route.

Yes I do drive the car hard and daily, lol, but I do know how to drive and I'm not clutch dumping it at every light I encounter. I'll try different launch techniques and see if what I can figure out.

If anyone is interested, I had a Mazdaspeed trans. rebuilt with Quaife ATB LSD and cryo-treated gears (1-5), both mainshafts, and syncros. I blew the motor and decided to go back to stock. I have a thread in the FS index titled Mazdaspeed Performance Parts for Sale (Pics and Prices) under JVJcivil. I will be looking for a trade and I am willing to negotiate the prices I posted since I need to get rid of the car sooner than I thought. So let me know if anyone is interested.
