P0131 Bank1 Sensor1 O2 Sensor

General techie question...

The check engine light came on the other day and i ran a scan on it. Came up as P0131 - Bank1 Sensor1 O2 Sensor. Since im planning to purchase a catless downpipe/exhaust system is this O2 sensor even needed? And once exhaust is installed (if it doesn't have the O2 sensor there) what do i need to tell the ecu it isnt there?

If you need to pass emissions you wont be able to go catless

the first O2 is improtatnt, the second one not so much. You can get by withoput the second one with an O2 simulator or you can add a non fouler in there which is what I did and for almost a year no check light has come on so it seems to work. but that code maybe a problem. check into it. and get it fixed before you go spending all your money on mods. good luck.

good news, the local mazda dealer said O2 sensors are covered under factory warranty for 4 years/50,000 miles and they are gonna check it out, but it may only need an update to the ecu for a tsb which causes incorrect DTC's and a hesitation which i notice at times.
