Anyone using the Microtech LT8 Stand Alone or the Haltec on their MSP?

I would like to know about these. What can and can't be done and what it comes with, tuning what you have to do and etc...

I hear the Microtech comes with a hand controller which is cool. I have not heard anything about Haltech or Microtech. please fill me in about these two systems. I knwo there is a thread about these (EMS) already but I rather know more about these two in more depth.
thanks

Haltech is what I prefer...my buddy ran the microtech on his corvette and his supra and it was more of a hassle than the haltech system...actually if you're going to go big I'd strongly strongly suggest running a megasquirt system...these are right around the same price range and well worth the money...Fairly hefty on the tuning and initial setup, but endless tuning possibilities...my partner ran this on his lemans gt3 porsche for awhile with killer results...

Cool thanks for the info DSMConvert, I just want to get a good reliable system to work with. I may just get your AFC but the MicroTech sounds nice to me. But then again I haven't heard anything good or bad about microtech or Haltec. Only things I have heard are good stuff about your AFC which is reassuring.

Megasquirt FTW! (thumb)

Working on mine now, I know I've been kind of a tease with it but the person that was going to help me is finally back from college so it should be running my car SOON.

DSMConvert is 100% right, Megasquirt has endless possibilites, and if you can tune it yourself (gotta go from scratch with this thing pretty much) or have a friend that knows it, it's actually pretty cheap.

What in the world is "Megasquirt?" I guess it's some kind of engine management system, but where can I get more info on it?

Megasquirt is a do-it-yourself type thing. While you can order it pre-assembled, if you get the kit you have to actually solder everything on the chipboard yourself. Sounds time consuming, and it is, but it costs like 200 bucks and can run ANYTHING. Can be a piggyback or full standalone.

It is really popular in Omaha so it's nice having people around here who know what they are doing with it.

edit: Right now I am only planning on doing fuel control with it, I have not fully researched what, if any, extra costs would be incurred if you plan on doing more, but I don't think you need any other hardware, just software which is free.

Sounds interesting...I saw the site before but didn't give it any attention. What If i order a pre-assemlbed one. What would I have to do to it? I am not good with wire but i'm good a t soldering but I rather not mess with something that controls my car.

If you order an assembled one you would just need to make a wiring harness for it. After that whip out your laptop and tune (first)

If only it was that easy for me, not much experience so I am at the mercy of the person who is going to help me; needless to say he is a busy kid.

Yes I am not experienced either. I would have to see if its possible for a shop near by to make me a wiring harness?? Can you order one through them? The only shops near by are Turbo Hoses, and that other shop that made the elise a trubo set-up and suspension...forgot the name.. I am not expireienced at all...but then again I am not planning to go all out big. SO what EMS does everyone think is good for meh?

hmm ok well wasn't going to say anything...but we're currently in negotiations to make/sell a plug and play harness....mazda is quite the suck when it comes to proprietary rights but we're working with an over seas company at the moment to go around it...

Are you talking about a plug and play version of your AFC unit? That would be cool. I am just deciding on your AFC or the Micro Tech Standalone. I will have to see. I won't be able to get it for a month or so.

Would a MegaSquirt do the work of a J&S Safeguard? Who`s the MegaSquirt authorized vendor?

How much does a assembled MS unit cost? And who would I go to for the wiring harness? I want to know If I can control most of the things the micro tech does. Anyone help here would be good. just having mixed thoughts on MS, and Microtech or DSM AFC

none on this forum, but go to their website, read the forums and learn all about it, how to assemble it, what the tuning possibilities are, etc.
