alot of people start with exhaust ---> upgraded intercooler ---> couple pounds of boost ---> ems

here would be a nice setup that wouldnt kill your bank account:
1. gut your cats
2. used smic
3. mbc (~8psi)
4. dsmconverts air/fuel controller
5. front motor mount

going to cost a little more than 700 probably around 800.
if this is all you want to do to your car performance wise then this would not be a bad idea.

buy an ems.......MPI Tuner, maybe even a Unichip. It will come with two maps.....low boost (5 psi) and high boost (10 psi) and your pretty much set. Thats if you dont plan on doing any major modifications anytime soon.

thanks, im not to sure what those abbrevations are for. i was thinking of and a front mount intercooler, computer upgrade, and a boost controler. any sugestion on which manufacture i should go with??? but if i gut my cat out will i be able to pass emmisions. this is my everyday driving car so i need it to be legal plus i was hoping to stay are around 20 mpg.

EXHAUST EXHAUST EXHAUST. The biggest power killer on the MSP is the restricive exhaust. Best bang for the buck, period. anything that causes back pressure for the turbo will slow spool time and inhibit its ability to give you the best power you can get at stock boost levels.

You can get a high flow cat exhaust system from many of our vendors. Here is a link to the autorized vendors for the forums http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5496

Also check out the For Sale section. People are selling used exhausts alot.

(thumb) wrd, IMO the "biggest" power killer in a stock msp setup is the stock ecu tune. Getting it tuned only makes modding alot more noticeable vice throwing mods in there then engine management. and thats from experience mang. (boom07)

Since you're on a budget, here is what I would recommend.

Apex or MAM downpipe with high-flow cat
Airflow logistics AFC (aka DSM AFC)
Manual boost controller up to 9psi

You should be "around" 200whp with that setup. It's just an estimation though and it is within your budget. You could even have a shop build you a downpipe with high-flow cat and it might cost less than the Apex or MAM.

After looking around, the Apexr1 downpipe is a bit pricy for what you get. I would suggest having a local shop estimate the downpipe and go that route, or get the MAM mid-pipe. Or you could get the Corksport exhaust and have a high-flow cat added to it. It's really up to what you want to do. The stock double cat system, stock ECU, and stock boost levels are what is holding the car back. With the Vibrant exhaust and DSM AFC I pulled 185whp at stock boost, but it also cost me over $1000 to get to that point because the Vibrant was over $800 shipped, plus the Kartboy hangers, and then $215 shipped for the used AFC.

No, infact if anything would make it richer.
you could run higher boost and lean it out but we all know thats not the safe thing to do.

edit: At least we should know its not the safe thing to do. (boom07)
