Hey I dont post much but I was looking into getting a narrowband A/F gauge and remembered that EGT gauges are just as effective and can be used to read other things... the question I have is how do you read the different things? any insight on the subject would be greatly appreciated thanks alot - Dan

depends on your setup and were is installed.
After the turbo (1-2 inches) ~1200F

I think wat hes askin is... On an EGT gauge, how do you know when you`re getting lean and how do you know when you`re getting rich. I THINK when the EGT starts getting hotter, you`re getting leaner and cooler = richer. But, I`m not sure and I`m not sure what the ideal temp. range is. Anyone know? I bet there`s either a thread or the info. is in an EGT gauge thread.

you dont read the EGT to know if your lean or rich. you read it to know if your engine is about to blow to bits and if your car is cool enough to turn off after a warmdown (if you dont have a turbo timer).
i asked the same thing when i was buying gauges. i didn't have the dough for wideband so i was trying to decide between narrowband, oil pressure, oil temp, somethin else, and egt. egt won the vote and so thats what i got. i plan on getting mpi soon so i wouldn't need a wideband since ill be leaving my extra laptop hooked up for the majority of the time.

u have to drill and tap somewhere in the exhaust system. make sure MP3Architect tells u, I dont have one.

i believe u need to have a bung welded in your downpipe

thats a wideband, 1-2 feet from the turbo. i THINK the EGT goes much closer to the motor.

it depends where you tap it. many people tap it on different places so you'd have to find someone who tapped it where you did.
yeah funny/sad thing...........i still haven't had time to get mine installed. that and my turbo timer have just been waiting to be installed since like august. i am a very busy type of person but hopefully during spring break i get my turbo timer installed, my egt finally hooked up (it just sits in the pod but it still lights up at night!) and my hood painted.
but heres a thread on where to tap....

EGT and wideband oxygen sensors are two tools to complete two different tasks. One is no better than the other because they do completely different things.
Typically, a wideband oxygen sensor is used for tuning air/fuel ratio's. Once you have that done you go to exhaust gas temp and tune the spark.
