I was wondering if anyone could help me out real quick....

My future plans for the car included a new catted midpipe, with an electronic exhuast cutout before the cat, and the stock axleback. That way i can have plenty of power and sound when i want it, as well as good crusing volume for highway miles, and pass emisions and all that.

Well, i just realized that this might be a problem down the road when i look for an EMS. I would be going with the cheaper solutions, most likely a split-second AFC, or possibly springing for the unichip. Would there be any problems as far as the tune for the car and switching the exhuast like that?? If i tune it with the exhuast dumped, would that make running with the cutout closed unsafe or make it run crappy??

If this is a major deal, is there any way to have 2 different maps programmed, and when i flip the switch for the exhuast cutout also switch the maps??

Thanks for the help

bump.....

can anyone help me out, or is this just a dumb question or something??

Stock boost? Intercooler upgraded? I wouldn't recommend restricting flow with the same boost as tuned when dumped. That will definately raise your engine temps.

Well this is all just theoretical right now.

With the unichip, i could have a 'low boost' setting, tuned with the cutout closed, for everyday driving, and then be able to switch "on-the-fly" to a 'high boost' setting, tuned for the cutout open, correct??

Would i be able to switch maps at the push of a button like this for the split second AFC, or is that only offered on the pricier solutions like the Unichip??

Sounds like a Unichip user question. Try doing a search... I'm pretty sure what I read in my Haltech manual I can set-up a hi-boost and low-boost, but would need to run thru a electronic boost controller wired into the Haltech. Switches to two different fuel maps.

the AFC requires you to upload the new map to the unit with a laptop. However you shouldnt need to switch maps simply for an exhaust cutout. All the cutout will essentially do is free up exhaust gases makign the boost rise slightly and a little quicker....our afc map is more than capable of adjusting itself for this without the need for a new map due to the built in map sensor which adjusts the fuel curve on the fly based on the pressure levels...Im assuming this is the case too for the unichip, but I'm not positive as we don't deal with their products.

for the unichip, it's recommended to switch your boost settings and your map settings, when the car is OFF. switching them on the fly can cause problems. however, some people on this board who have been switching on the fly say it works. i've only switched at OFF and at idle, never when driving.
