Ok I may get flamed for this but try not to, I really dont know that much about engines and such but I am trying to learn. Alright here goes.

With my current money situation I cant really afford a good 3" turbo-back exhaust so I have been checking my other options. Ive seen that many sets of forged pistons are actually cheaper than a 3" turbo-back and this has made me wonder if I should just go ahead and begin on some actual engine work and just leave the stock exhaust on right now (seeing as I can always remove it from the cat back :) ) So I was wondering how much it would cost to do this type of thing. Also I have a few other questions about it.

1)Would I need to buy anything besides the pistons?
2)Will forged pistons work well with the stock rods?
3)If I buy standard bore pistons would I need any machining to be done?
4)If I can/do this will it most definately twist a rod?
5)What brand would you recommend?

So basically thats all that I can think of right now. Any help, including comments on why I should/shouldnt do this, is greatly appreciated.

You want the Rods not the pistons, if you are only going to do one and not the other. Msp piston isnt that weak its the Rods that are trash. And this would end up being pretty expensive unless you are going to do it yourself.

1&2) If you replace the pistons with aftermarket ones, you need to replace the rods aswell.
3) Don't buy standard bore. Having atleast a .010" overbore allows for a proper hone and your rings will seat into the cylinders much better during break in.
4) What.
5) Wiseco, CP & JE all make aftermarket pistons. Hiboost sells remachined stock pistons, but it's best to spend the extra $50-150 dollars on a forged piston.

If you can't afford a turboback, you can't afford to build the motor, nor would you be able to use the motor to its potential if you built it w/o supporting mods first.

Rods are trash on this car, get the rods and pistons and you wont have to worry later. No you can't do this yourself unless you are an excelent mechanic. Save for the install later. Then some EMS, then the fun stuff. I would just change the mid pipein the mean time.
