Well, Im trying to do my car as inexpensivly as possible. Gonna prove a point this year showing my car. (details for that to follow)
Anyways, looking to paint my grille and custom lip Im building, I came across a company that does custom Rattle cans for automotive paints. http://www.towerpaint.com/index2.html I called them, and they have the Spicy Orange in Rattle Cans. Its a 2 stage, just like the OEM paint, with a base coat and pearl coat. 19.95 a can.
Im going to order these at the end of the week, and paint the grille I got. If its a good cover and matches close, Ill be happy. :D

Good to know. Might be a nice alternative for do it yourself accessory painting. Not picking at you, just reminding you that our paint is referred to as a 3-stage. Base - Mid - Clear. You mentioned the first two. I'm assuming they offer a clear in the rattle can too?

There was another company that had it also... Mattew used it on his P5's valve cover, but I can't recall the companies name or website...

I doubt it. You'd have much better results with a roller. (thumb)

Would the same thing be possible with 'black mica'? I also have some things that I want painted......and would like to save some $$$ on painting costs if I could.

sweet. what do you tell them, car/make/model etc? and they know what it is? and i'm an idiot when it comes to paint, what is 2 stage? and for someone as retarded as me to paint something like a lip or a grill, what do i need to do?

From the factory and paint booths its 3 stages. You get 2 cans from these folks though. the Base coat (In my case Orange) and the clear with the flakes.
As far as painting, preping the part is one of the most important things. 1 clean it good and do not touch it with your fingers once cleaned. 2. a good, well ventilated area is best. Make sure to not have wind or fans blow onto the part as this could put contaminents onto the drying paint. 3. 3 thin layers of the base, with a wet sand with a very fine grit paper once dried. After that 3 coats of the clear and wet sand.
Once I do my stuff up, Ill post a how to. Im going to use an enamel primer for mine, as this is going on a bumper and lip and needs to be flexible. The paint is enamel also so it has a flexability to it also.
EDIT. Yeah, year make model and color name or color code and they will match it up.
Also as far as the 3 stage, I am assuming they combine the mid and clear coat together in 1 can. All I can say is if 40 bucks gets me a good looking finish as opposed to 140 bucks to a shop why not. I like the DIY stuff anyways. :D
