UPDATE-7/23/06 - Finally got it painted!
http://www.msprotege.com/members/ForceFed/GSXR/White%20GSXR%20Front.JPG
Well , I started ripping this thing apart last night and just thought I would show you guys my little project as it progresses along.
It starts as this twisted mess tonight...but hopefully in a few weeks will be back to better than new goodness!
This is also my first attempt ever at hosting pics rather than attaching them...Sure hope this works!(thumb)

damn thats a mess....Give it about a month..It'll look better than new ...and just in time for riding season!(thumb)
Beleive it or not....The pic with the plastic off....Everything is ok and free of damage from the tank back..the tank, frame, rear plastic,wheels.....its all nearly perfect....just needs all the busted pieces.
And before anyone asks, heres the story on it.
For starters, everyones OK....I bought it this way about a month ago and heres what happened...Guy bought it and had never ridden before...Lets a friend who has riden for years ride it, and low and behold...he lays it down at about 40MPH....It slides on its left side until it comes to a nice stop resting against the side of a car.
The guy riding got some rash but is ok, and beleive it or not, the bike looks worse than it is. It is gonna cost a lot to fix but I think it will be worth what it takes to get it back to better than new. It has just over 7K miles on it as we found out last night and after installing the new magneto cover and the radiator....The bike Fired right up even in the subfreezing weather...No chrger and no problems!
It had been sitting for about 6 weeks like this...but its ALIVE...It runs again!<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I got a little more work done tonight. Mainly cleaning up the garage and pulling the front wheel and rotors as well as pulling the left rearset and yanking it apart to replace the broken shift lever. (cabpatch) More to come tomorrow evening for sure...I gotta pick up some more stuff for reassembly...Mainly some thread locker.
ENJOY! (thumb)

Looks fun! I've got a GSXR 750 and a GS1100 drag bike in my past. I always like wrenching on bikes, as opposed to being bent over an engine bay at a 45 degree angle for hours on end or burning your head on a dp while changing the oil .... nice garage heater btw.

New pics of some used replacement plastics I picked up. Some need a little work as these did come off of a wrecked bike, but nothing I don't feel I can't handle. Also a pic of the new shift lever installed and my ever growing corner and Wall of parts!

If you send it to get chromed take it completely apart yourself. CHrome shops around here are notorious for putting things back together with the wrong fastners because they lost the stock ones. I'm slaving away on a bike right now as well although my project isn't near as cool. I was asked to recondition an old 1982 Kawasaki GPz550 for a friend that had been sitting for 3 years. I just got her running somewhat decent tonight and I still need to do a little adjusting with the air screws on the carbs. After that I get to rebuild the brake calipers, put in new fork seals, and replace the tires.

Those guys don't do anything for free!(boom07)

why are you chroming a sport bike out of curiosity?
Drackonn
04-22-2006, 11:50 PM
why not chrome it out? if he wants to show it ... he said he had another bike to ride so im guessing this one is just kinda like a show / toy ...
in my opinion chrome looks great on sportbikes ... if its done right :)
my bike just got back from paint today, its candy apple red :) ill post pics tomorrow

why are you chroming a sport bike out of curiosity? Why does your car have a tone of CF?
Because you want it....Damn man...its a bike, its mine, and thats how I wanted it. Actually though....I have slightly changed direction with the bike and I am not sure if I am gonna chrome it or not this year. I want to stunt a little and I would hate to trash some nice, new expensive chrome. Not to mention I am trying my hand at painting for the first time with this project...
On a good note, I got the bike on the road today for the first time and she rode out nice....although it was sporting NO Gear except the gas tank....Straight stripped right now. And I also picked up my new compressor tonight to get it plumbed in for the new paint job to come....The next couple of weeks should be fun. I was hoping to have this done already but school is taking a lot more of my time than I expected....and since its more important, this will just have to wait. It's getting done...little by little.

all you had to say is stunt, that explains everything
Drackonn
04-23-2006, 09:59 AM
all you had to say is stunt, that explains everything
?? chroming things weakens its integrity ... stunters dont chrome things because they beat the shit out of bikes and chrome falls apart under the pressure ... they do alot of polishing but no chroming ...
glad to hear you got it on the road how does it run?
jsgolfer
04-24-2006, 12:32 AM
what i meant was if he plans on stunting then he doesnt care about it being fast or handling well, its all for looks and doing 5mph wheelies. i personally think that stuff is silly and funny. sport bikes are meant to be taken to tracks, to the mtns, and riden hard. stunting is just a waste of a nice machine in my opinion. but to each his own i guess

Is it a 600 or a 750?? Looks like a 750 to me but I can't really tell. I'll post some pics of my Kawasaki up when I get a chance. Yours is all white, mine is all ocean blue. I think one single color with no graphics makes a bike look so much cleaner.
