How about we let the poll attatched to this thread speak for itself.

How about we let the poll attatched to this thread speak for itself.

That's the idea. I figure once there's a lot of votes we can narrow it down to a couple states and then people from the area or who know the area can suggest good locations for a big group of cars (hopefully not just a parking lot, some place where there is something fun we can all do).

Once we get a location then maybe do a signup list and a supplies list, and get sponsors or something.

thanks.

Just make sure that where ever the location, that there is active people there to help plan the meet.. :)

Right; you'll need to get volunteers for a committee of sorts to get it organized (if it's going to be anything a bit more than just a bunch of people with their hands down their pants staring at BOVs for 4 hours).

I nominate Zverg as meet Coordinator...

anyone second that?

im unsure of what state to chose...someone can pay me to chose so then the voting is biased *hint hint*

I hope this happens. It seems to be 2 months to vote for a state then 2 months to pic a commitee then 2 months to pick an actual location.
Oh shit! Its August and nothing is planned!

I will attend any where as long as it is organized and planned.

That's what I'm hoping for.. that things get planned out enough in advance that everything is finalized and people are ready before it goes down. The voting for a state will definitely not take 2 months. :)

Oh and it'll probably like a week or so after the Florida meet. Yeah I'm probably going to go to the Florida meet, then visit with my grandparents, and then drive to wherever the Eastern States meet is.

A week might be too close, but hell what ever. I was hoping my comment was not talken negatively, but as a hint that this is a lot more than bargained for.

I recomended a park thinking parking for 150 was enough, but as it looks now we may out grow that so we are having to make back up plans.

Also looking for hotels 5 months in advance and some are already sold out! Yep should of seen their faces when I said I need a price for 30 rooms. Now that was funny

im pretty sure they are booked for the summer, but someone contact VIR (virginia international raceway) im sure they have something with motorcycles planned for most of the weekends, you never know, but its worth a shot, hell, maybe next year, other than that... i suggest richmond or va beach in virginia

Kansei
02-24-2006, 11:02 PM
It seems barely anyone has voted for more than one state.. for anyone who hasn't voted yet vote for any state you think would be appropriate or fun for this meet.

I'm ok with Virginia but OUCH @ 23 hour drive from Dallas. 16 hours from Chicago though, not too bad.

If anyone from Kentucky or Tennessee knows of any place, feel free to let me know.

skyline drive area, harrisonburg, staunton, whinchester... basically anywhere along I-81 from whinchester down to lexington almost. know its cheap a$$ lodging and plenty of it that never gets booked. i also know of some good roads to go driving on out towards WV. party scene is a little dead but plenty of places for a lot of cars

ok so here is my input.... i think deals gap, TN... smack in the middle and a fun ass drive around a mountain.... i know a group that went last year and had a blast. atlanta i would say would be bad cause of NOPI in mid august.... but thats just mho. i will do my best to be there.... think late august if possible... i already have plans for early that month.

Shit why dont we all register and do NOPI? Food, magazine coverage, as well as entertainment is already planned?

We could eliminate alot of the head aches? Hotels will be listed with group rates already. We could acually go this at all the shows if there is enough interest! I am sure if we register as a club then we can park together!

eeehhhh.... not so much into nopi this year.... im not ready... i just got my 6 in august and i havent done much to it. pluse its kinda expensive to register and then getting the hotels that have already been booked a year in advance..... its a huge mes, the cops are asses, and my understand is this is supposed to be a mazda thing i mean i could understand if we registered 20 or so cars as a team... but i think they would think we were crazy if we registered 100+ cars as a team... i duno....again this is just mho.... im still sticking with deal's gap, tn.... tail of the dragon is soooo much more fun!!!!! :)

Pyr0TeK
02-25-2006, 05:51 PM
NOPI is fun also.. I went last year and we went to a Mazda party that was pretty cool. We could plan lots to do there... and we would be representin' Mazda BIGTIME by having so many more cars than ever before. I think people would be like "Wow... check out how many Mazda's showed up!" On the other hand, TN would be fun also... so I'm down for whatever... and you don't have to have your car done to enter into NOPI... hell most of the cars just enter to be in the infield to hang out. You don't have to place. Either way, I'll probably go to both if the meet is somewhere else... HELLZ YEAH! (cheers)

Last year, our club (ipmcsfl) went to nopi AND the tail of the dragon in the same weekend. They left from Miami thursday morning got to the tail in evening, did a few runs, flipped a MSP and then lodged around the dragon. In the morning, they ran the tail again (minus one MSP) then drove to Atlanta where I met up with them. Spent the night watching the video of the car flipping and then went to NOPI saturday morning. Nopi itself was alot of fun, much more than flipping a car doing 35mph at the tail. Just my opinion though. We then partied at the same, said post-NOPI party that night and then we headed back down to Miami Sunday around noon. We were here around 7:30pm that night. Our club does that every year (for like three or four years now).

*bump* for today.

I'm starting the list. I think the format I used (forum name - name - state you'll be travelling from) should be enough. If I think of anything more to be added I'll post it.

1) zverg - Chris - New Hampshire
2)
3)
4)
5)

Also I'm going to need a few people to help coordinate things. Since Tennessee and Virginia seem to be in the lead in the poll right now, if you're from either state or are nearby and would be willing to help coordinate the meet locally (i.e. scoping out prospective locations, etc) send me a PM.

well i just went to my first autocross this weekend in Verona VA which is close to skyline drive, and also close to some really nice mountain rds (drive2). Im gonna try to find some contact information about the place where the event was held. I doubt it would be hard to get the lot for a day, seeing that the autocross was cancled in lynchburg thrusday night and moved there on sunday. anyway, just an idea, if that area or somewhere near there is chosen i will do what ever i can to help set it up.

Yeah I'm sorry I haven't really been on top of things with that I just got done with finals and drove all the way back home to CT today so I'm dead tired. I'll update the threads and such in the morning. Looks like VA it is. I would have liked to see something a bit farther west (like not on the coast) but like many have said it's a long drive for just a car meet, but in Williamsburg VA there's plenty of other stuff to do to make a weekend out of it. I guess that makes it worth the longer drive for people coming from farther west.

So anyone who knows of a place in VA nominate it and then I'll probably set up a poll for that.

Who is signed up who would be completely against middle TN instead of coastal VA? Like suppose the meet would have a much larger turnout and possibly sponsors or something.

Edit: and how do people feel about late August or early September so that it isn't quite as hot down there :)

The only complication I see would be people in college (like myself), but if you leave friday morning or afternoon to drive down, then have the meet saturday, and then leave sunday it's not too bad.

I believe that is the most fair for EVERYONE. late august or early september is also another great idea. i just hope you dont decied to make it the last weekend in september because i already have another car event that i am required to attend. (for those that must know its H2o, a VW show)

as for location in TN... im still HIGHLY suggesting deals gap.

Seems like Tenn. should be the spot if your shooting for a middle ground...sounds good to me

The dots are at random but are in the correct state at the correct amount as of today via the poll.

Yes but you are forgetting that most of the people who voted for Virginia doen't necessarily live there. My vote is for Virgina because it's the only state on the list I would actually consider driving to. Tennesse is too far to travel for those of us in New England and New York.

Virginia is pretty centrally located on the east coast.... we seem to be in the middle.. :)

Changing it from Virginia to Tennessee will add roughly 7-8 hrs onto the NEPOC'ers trip. For me that would be 18 hrs instead of 11.

it really depends on how much of an "eastern meet" that you want....

the first map is with a center reference based on Boston, Chicago and Jacksonville, FL

the second map is more of an eastern half of the states and its respective center.

Btw, where is Bristol?

The way the roads go must suck or something. It adds roughly 2 hours for me to go from Rochester to Nashville versus Williamsburg.

Looking at the Worcester, MA to Nashville, TN directions it's such an indirect path.

If Kentucky was at all an option maybe that would be better for people? Agh why the hell does it take 11 hours to get from Richmond, VA to Lexington, KY?! A lot of those roads must not be highways.

I understand it makes it a longer drive for NEPOC, trust me. If it makes the difference between having like 30 cars and having 200+, it's worth it to me. Depending on the date I'm either leaving from NH, CT, or Rochester so I'm probably going to be in the same boat as the rest of NEPOC. It's definitely a drive I'd want to have a passenger for so that I can have conversation to stay alert.

We're trying to make this as good as possible for as many people as possible behind the scenes. Putting it in Williamsburg, although it seems like a great idea since there are attractions in the area, it makes it a very long trip for anyone who isn't on the coast.

Chicago, IL to Knoxville, TN - 11 hours 26 minutes
Orlando, FL to Knoxville, TN - 14 hours 13 minutes
Dallas, TX to Knoxville, TN - 15 hours 45 minutes
Rochester, NY to Knoxville, TN - 15 hours 6 minutes
Springfield, MA to Knoxville, TN - 14 hours 43 minutes
Chicago, IL to Knoxville, TN - 11 hours 26 minutes
New Orleans, LA to Knoxville, TN - 11 hours 29 minutes
Houston, TX to Knoxville, TN - 18 hours 30 minutes
San Fran, CA to Knoxville, TN - 1 day 19 hours.. sorry guys :(
Toronto, ON to Knoxville, TN - 15 hours 43 minutes -- Let's make this international!
St. Louis, MO to Knoxville, TN - 9 hours 20 minutes
Richmond, VA to Knoxville, TN - 9 hours 20 minutes
Charleston, SC to Knoxville, TN - 7 hours 56 minutes
Cleveland, OH to Knoxville, TN - 9 hours 43 minutes

Does anyone think that this is a bad location?

Boston, MA to Knoxville, TN - 19 hours 5 minutes (as reported by Google Maps)
Boston, MA to Knoxville, TN - 15 hours 6 minutes (as reported by Mapquest)

The funny thing is both report almost identical milage. Either MapQuest expects me to speed or Google thinks I drive like an old lady.

What's there to do in Knoxville.

I think something is up with google maps.. if you look at the route they have you take to knoxville it sucks and it's really indirect. I don't know why I even use google maps it suggested a very different way for me to get home from school and I took it and it took a full two hours longer. bastards.

Edit: oh and what knoxville has is a venue that could handle a group our size, lodging, etc. If this gets as big as it looks like it will there aren't that many places for us to do this. Also the person who is doing all the work with this behind the scenes (not me, I just wanted to have a meet and didn't know where to go from there) has many years of experience organizing events and has contacts and such in the area. If you NEPOC guys want I'll drive the 7 or so hours from school to Boston and caravan down with all of you. According to the time google maps says it'll take to get there from boston it would almost be faster to drive to my apartment in Rochester and then go south through pittsburgh and west virginia. I could provide overnight lodging if needed :P

Oh whoa look at the time I posted from Springfield to Knoxville.. does it suddenly take that many hours to get from Boston to Springfield?? maybe there's some super secret construction project that will completely sever the mass pike and interstate 84 all summer and only google maps and the government knows about it.

That's the idea. I figure once there's a lot of votes we can narrow it down to a couple states and then people from the area or who know the area can suggest good locations for a big group of cars (hopefully not just a parking lot, some place where there is something fun we can all do).

Once we get a location then maybe do a signup list and a supplies list, and get sponsors or something.

thanks.

What happened to this? I voted for Tenn but what about the 30 that voted for the other? I guess Sadam is running this!

It was a choice between going to Virginia where we had no venue that could handle us and no vendor support or Tennessee where there is a venue and we can get many more people. I'm sorry if I let people down but I never (if I did please correct me I don't remember everything) said that I would completely let the votes control everything, nothing would ever get done that way.

To keep things uncluttered we're moving over to a new thread with a new name, "2006 Mazda Festivus".

http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123627879

Anyone who was on the original signup list who doesn't want to be on it anymore for any reason, let me know and I'll take you off. :(

I apoligize for such a harsh comment but I feel this is why we have so many problems (of course smart asses like me don't help)

It seems as though the mistake was by not researching spots b4 the poll was posted?

BTW i am signed up to support this anyways!
