Hey folks,

Does anybody have any complaints or points regarding the Protege5 leather seats? I'm looking for a set to swap into my MSP, and I'd like to hear what you all think of them.

Thanks.(thumb)

I love my leather seats. If you take good care of them, it'll repay the favor. About the only gripe is that they don't hold you in that well during sprited turns and the like. Oh, and it sucks in the winter (they get cold) and summer (hot if left in the sun), but I've learned to deal with them. I also wish the leather was "tighter", but that's OK.

Personally, unless the clothe is of very good quality, I could never see myself going to anything but leather. I don't smoke and I'll throw anyone out of the car if they eat or smoke in it and I find it easier to just wipe them down if they do get dirty. It also gives a bit of an "upscale" look to the econoshitboxes we know as the Protege.

If you want the lumbar/sport support, get a set of MSP (or better) seats....if they didn't look out of place, the new MX-5 seats look and feel great for being leather wrapped tighter on the seat.

Recommended: A- (the minus for the aforementioned minor quips).

Hey thanks. I've already got the MSP seats. I want to swap them out for some P5 leather ones for the upscale look and feel you mentioned. (thumb)

Yeah, I caught that after I posted, just didn't bother editing the post.

No, there's lumbar support; but relative to other "sportier" seats, it leaves some room for improvement.

Just a note for all you nitpicky people. Does anyone know that the rear seats from a P5 will fit into the MSP/Protege? Putting this out there because it would look pretty funny with just 2 leather seats.

You'd need to make sure the "latches" are there (whatever the tech. term is) are there to keep the seat bottom to the floorboard and the release on the backs have something to claspe to, unless you permanently attach them w/o any need to have them fold down.

I love my cloth seats in the P5. I had leather in my Eclipse and Integra, nothing special for me. On the other hand, my Acura CL has really nice heated leather seats.

Oh, forgot to mention the carinthian leather in my 79 Chrysler Cordoba. Oh what a beast that was.

well I know that (hand)

re-read what I wrote before and this time look carefully

i always wondered why they folded forward....

if you take the headrests off of the seatbacks, and fold the bottom down (or just take em out) you can fold the backs flat

I love my leather seats. I will probably never own another car without leather. Both of my del Sol's had it(I got them done custom) and well, I opted for the leather in the P5. I can't get over how "classy" they make the car look. Not to mention, 90% of the girls I meet, love leather more! :) Ha Ha

but, just for shits and giggles... If you were to find someone with leather seats, would you do a straight up trade?

Haha! That was very similar to mine except a diffrent year and it was an Emerald Green. Though it had these chrome buckles in the seat that would burn your ass when it sat in direct sunlight. Never understood that styling idea. Good ol' V8 monster.

on a side note- my leather seats have side air bags. that would make them quite expensive to replace. you might wanna find out if you can get the leather seats without the airbag. sorry i can't tell you if they came without the airbag option or not, but wasn't sure if you knew that at least SOME leather seats have the airbags

But do the rear P5 seats in the MSP still fold down and lock when up?

I like them, they look good. The problem I have is the lack of lumbar support. The lack of lumbar makes the car so punshing to drive. Made me hate the car. More than likely all the protege seats would be the same though with the milage and time in the seat that I have put in mine.

I'm not really missing my 5 at all.
