Hell All,
So I am looking to get out of 2001 Nissan Sentra into a Protege5. The reported reliability of this car is what is impressing me. I have been looking and looking and finally I came across one that is nearby and the color I like. But here is the problem...the price seems too reasonable. I did a carfax check and it is clear; however, $9995 for a 2002 with only 41500 miles on it seems kinda too low. It is a family-owned dealership so that freaks me out sorta.

What do you guys think?

10 is acutally kind of high for an 02. I've seen people selling their MP3's at around that price. I would try to talk them down.

I didn't notice the automatic. If you wan't to stay auto try to look for the sport tronic one. Its just funner to drive. If you are looking to get more out of it like turbo or high NA get manual.

Oh and welcome BTW

you could always talk them UP in price lolz

I think you should try for a 5spd if at all possible esp if you plan on tweaking it any, unless you prefer autos. If you are worried about a possible problem, have a trusted mechanic check it out before you sign any papers.

Welcome to the 4-ums!

Early 02 model, pretty nice, and considering I paid about 2x that when I bought mine going on 4(!!) years ago.

I would take it to a 3rd party mechanic for a full inspection, just in case. Can never tell, might be a flood car or had been in a bad wreck, and carfax somehow missed it.
Just a thought. Oh, and if you get it by next Saturday, there is a big meet in Clearwater FL. And in July, a huge national meet in Tampa. Check the Florida section of the forums for more info, and welcome to the family!

Welcome to the fam! Definitely get it checked by a mechanic you know and trust. Maybe they have lowered the price because it has been on their lot for awhile (just one thought).

for reference, i bought my 02 p5 for 9500 bucks with 36~ish thousand miles last year. of course that was through a private seller. best price i could find when i was shopping, and i need a new car. i had to take an auto... but i got my yellow car!!

Also, my girlfriend got her 2001 ford focus for 8100 bucks (before tax and all that crap) with 6100 miles from a dealearship two years ago. so, believe me, i know what you mean by "too reasonable." i have to say i was a little skeptical. but the car has done awesome. she drives that thing everywhere...i thinks she's put like 40,000-some-odd miles on that thing. no problems at all.

so, hell, why don't you try and talk them down even more. if you think that price is too reasonable, who knows, you might save yourself another grand and get a really reasonable offer.

anyway, i hope you get the car...they're awesome. you won't regret it!

oh, and welcome to the forums!!!

Yeha that's not really a great price for that many miles. I paid 10999 (before taxes and warranty and stuff) for a 2002.5 with like 14k miles on it from a dealership... oh and that was just over two years ago. It was 2k off because of president's day weekend.

I've been loving this car more and more every day for the past two years. :)

Good luck finding one, not many people want to give them up!

I am on my first year of having my Protege5 and I love it. I came straight from a 1989 Camaro to a 2002 Protege5, and no regrets here!!

Bought it for 8,000... my uncle works at the dealership:).

HOW MANY MILES?!

It has 39K miles. The oil has been changed every 3K miles using Mobil1 Synthetic. I owe 10,5K on it and i might be looking at getting a Scion TC, but it's still up in the air. Everytime i see my P5 it makes me smile :)
