I have xm installed using the FM modulator. In the xm instruction book it states that there is 3 levels of sound quality. The modulator is the middle best and using the tape adaptor gives the best sound.
My 6s has the 6 disc changer and no tape player. Is there any way i can wire up plugs that tap in to the TAPE/MD button that is on the unit? I dont want to spend $160 on the tape player. Can this be done?

how the hell is a tape adaptor, or a fm modulator the best sound. A direct tap from the xm tuner to the stereo is the best sound not the other way around as you state.

Tape player is the WORST quality, your reading it backwards, or they printed it backwards yo

book would have to be wrong if that is what it states... direct is the best for quality... no middle man...

my hu is xm ready, but i know how audio shit works and as you can see, how the hell is a tape the best quality because if you dont notice its phased out technology so how can it be the best.

ok i have 2 different models of xm recievers and you are telling me they are both printed wrong?
come to think of it i think you guys read my post wrong. I am stating that the book states that the best sound quality of the 3 options given (fm wireless, fm modulator, or tape adaptor) is the tape adaptor.

yea maybe of those 3, by why the hell would you do that. Run a direct connection to it or if you cant do it with what you go. Go get a Head Unit with XM Ready and buy the tuner ittle have a direction connection to the head unit and ull love the shit out of it. Better sound in ur car, easier installation and ull see the song titles and all that shit rite on the display
out of those 3 options... I guess tape could be best... but I'd go FM just as its easier...

thats what i thought. just getting a new head unit for a 6 isnt as easy as you think. just for the custom face plate is $150 then you still have to buy teh unit.

I'm not very positive, but I think there should be an auxmod available for the mazda 6, this will do as you were asking and give you an auxilary input using your MD or whatever button. It will give you a direct line-in connection which should be better than the tape adapter (which IS indeed superior to fm wireless by far, and only has a slight edge over FM MOD simply due to frequency responce.)
I'm really unsure why some ppl feel the need to post uneducated blanket statements. Sorry about that, I'll check at work tomorrow what all's available unless there is something listed online.

Apparantly ther eis an auxmod somewhere avaialabe that sells for $50, I can't really find any direct linkage to them, but seanmcsean seems to have one. I'd assume the other 6 sites have it listed. Unless you'd also like Ipod or other MP3 player connectability as well, which means you can get one of these guys: http://www.therpmstore.com/index.php?cPath=26_42&osCsid=93dcdc2c3054ad1cda26dddd168cb5bf
They are somewhat spendy at $140, but they'll give you ipod or misc mp3 connection/control as well as an additional aux-in for your XM

As for the discussion of FM-mod, FM-direct, or tape adapter, using a tape adapter clearly provides the best quality over any type of FM modulation. However, this is acceptable ONLY if the HU does not support aux-in. Since the MZ6 HU does support aux-in (via aftermarket products), do not settle for FM-mod, or get a cassette player only for aux-in. Instead, get either the RPM audio link or the Sylfex AuxMod.
The RPM audio link plugs into the rear of the HU in the port to which an external CD changer would plug in. The Sylfex Auxmod plugs into the HU port that the tape or minidisc player would use. Basically, this adapter provides a 3.5mm stereo minijack that is "live" when you press the "MEDIA" button on the HU. Click here for their info. (http://www.sylfex.com/products/AuxMod/) You'll probably have to contact them to find out when their next shipment of products arrives, since they're out of stock due to high popularity.
