I am in the process of installing the sparco pedals that came out of a MSP into my Protege5. My question is on the gas pedal is there a plate that goes under the rubber? Or do I use the existing holes and drill through the plastic and mount that way? If anyone has ever taken their pedals off or has done this swap before that could help me out i would really apreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I did this awhile back, and I must say it was a PITA. lol
There is no plate on the gas pedal. Mine was completely plastic, no rubber or anything. I drilled right through the pastic. No problem. The problem was drilling the brake and clutch. These are metal, and are not easy to drill through. I had a hell of a time with this. But, once I got it to drill where I wanted, this is what I ended up with. Hope this helps.

Yes that does help. My pedals look a lot different than that. I have already got the clutch and brake drilled and mounted. They look great and there are no problems. The gas I thought would be the easiest but the pedal is too big. I have no way of getting 4 holes and mounting it.

These are the same design as the first MSP. The one's you have are probably from the newer model.
If you look closely, you will see I had no way of drilling 4 holes as well. I only have three. (dunno) It's on there pretty good, but I dont like the look of that one screw missing.

Thats a negative.... the brake and clutch pedal are the same, but the gas is different. The gas on mine is flat, it doesn't have the indentation like yours does, so it is a lil different than the brake and clutch. Its also longer, and i believe wider. I'd take a pic but i don't have a camera.

I can take a picture of my pedal if that would help. I just dont see anyway of possibly mounting this on my stocker with out some type of mounting bracket or plate. Maybe I will just make my own using sheet metal.

OK, so this afternoon I thought up another way that I can attach the pedal with out drilling holes in the plastic OEM pedal. I know then when I am done with my car and I part it out these sparcos will pry sell. I made this bracket to go between the plastic pedal and the rubber back of the sparco. I am pry going to attach this bracket with two zip ties and see how it looks and feels...if that works then ill just leave it. But if it doesnt then i will drill holes.

A) good luck, hope it works
B) that is the same gas pedal as the MSPs, and o.g.sk8r's are different, just so you know.

yes it is from a MSP. o.g.sk8rs are just from the older style pedal. I know the bracket i made looks like shit but it actually worked perfectly and you do not even know that its there now.

yeah, i'm sure as long as its smaller than the pedal, it would be fine. Glad it worked out.

hmmm... i thought you could take them apart, like including the metal bars that hold them in the air

I thought the same thing, that you could separate the pedals themselves from the metal assembly and screw the MSP ones on without drilling holes through the stock pedals. I'm glad I figured it out before buying some Sparco pedals last year.

so you are saying that the protege5 pedals come apart or the sparco pedals? I had to drill holes in the clutch and brake pedals but there are covers that go right back over those anyway so i didnt care. I do not want to drill the gas pedal which is plastic.
