My wipers don't work anymore. Washer fluid still works, so it isn't the fuse, which I checked.

What else can I check? Motor? Relay? Where is the relay located?

All these weird electrical things happening after I installed my HIDs (ground loop noise, dead wipers).

likely a wiper motor, faulty linkage or a relay. i have heard of more and more motors failing after higher miles or on older proteges.

Actually it turns out my wiper motor is fine. I popped the hood and took a closer look at the wiper motor and discovered that the little black ground wire had broken loose. Must've happened by accident when I was mounting my Helios HID ballast here:

I stuck the wire back under the washer and now my wipers work fine (thumb)

Let's leave this thread around for others who make dumb moronic mistakes like me when installing their HIDs.

great to see that you actually had it taken care of. There is nothing better than finding the cause of the problem by yourself without the need to pay mechanics. (thumb)

Ya, I was worried I'd have to get it fixed urgently because it was snowing, and it would just be stupid to drive around without wipers in those conditions. Best part is that we have a second 2001 Protege in the house, so I was able to compare the two and determine where that broken off wire belonged :D

Seems like a wear and tear issue for the pro. My ground wire also broke off. I think that this is a simple but annoying issue that we'll see
