View Full Version : PA Fun Run: Saturday, March 18th in Bucks County, Pennsylvania

It's time to start up the spring season with a Fun Run! Winter is finally over, time to clean off all the salt & sand from your cars, take off the snow tires, and get ready for some spirited driving through the twisties!!

Saturday, March 18th @ 3:30pm
Any significant chance of rain or wet roads will postpone the meet until the following Saturday (March 25th).

INFORMATION
The 'Fun Run' meets are a regular gathering of local MTMA members and prospective members who want to have a fun ride around the twisty backroads of Bucks County, PA. The cruise is about 40 miles long with plenty of twists, bends, hills, and curves. We'll be meeting up at the Park & Ride in Yardley, PA off of I-95 right on the NJ/PA border.

The cruise will start at 4:00pm sharp, and takes a little over an hour. Directions for the course will be given to anyone who needs them. All Mazda enthusiasts are welcome to attend.

RULES
1. Keep a safe distance from each other. If we are going too slow for you, then just deal with it for the time being. I'll give you a copy of the directions if you want to take the drive faster by yourself.

2. Strictly obey any 25 MPH speed limits. There are a couple of residential areas along the ride.

3. Use common sense at all times. No burnouts, 'attempts' at drifting, etc.

4. We will be taking things fairly fast, so be prepared for some 'spirited' driving. People that do not feel comfortable taking sharp turns higher than the posted recommended speed (not the speed limit, the speed posted on the yellow signs) will want to stay towards the back of the pack.

5. On straights and slight curves, for the most part we will stay fairly close to the speed limit (~5 - 10 mph over) to avoid attention from the police. However, there are some areas where we will temporarily 'kick it up a notch.'

6. If your car is significantly lower than stock you may want to think twice before going on the run. There are a lot of elevation changes, and people with really lowered cars have had some trouble. Use your own judgement when driving; I or MTMA accept no responsibility for any damages.

DIRECTIONS
The Park & Ride is located at the corner of Taylorsville Rd and Woodside Rd in Yardley, PA. You can enter that intersection into most online mapping services (Yahoo! Maps, Mapquest, Google Maps, etc.) to get turn-by-turn directions. Here are some general directions from the major highways in the area. Feel free to PM me with any questions you have about how to make it to the meet.

From NJ/North: Take I-95 into Pennsylvania. Take exit 51 (the very first exit in PA, right over the bridge) towards New Hope. The Park & Ride is on your right at the first light.

From NJ Turnpike: Take exit 7A to I-195 West. See directions from I-195.

From I-195: Take I-195 West to the end. Keep to the left, and I-195 West will turn into Route 29 North. Continue on Route 29 North past Trenton. Follow the signs and take the exit to I-95 South. Cross over the bridge, and take the first exit in PA (exit 51 towards New Hope, right over the bridge). The Park & Ride is on your right at the first light.

From PA/South: Take I-95 North towards New Jersey. Take exit 51 (the last exit in PA). Keep left at the fork, and turn left onto Taylorsville Road. The Park & Ride is on your right at the first light.

From Southern NJ: Take I-295 North to the end. I-295 will turn into I-95 South. See directions from NJ/North.

QUESTIONS
If you have any questions about anything concerning this run, feel free to post a reply or send me a PM.

You know it! Sean you should join us for the Mid-Ohio Meet! Mazda Corporate may buy our members tickets, plus we get a parade lap around the track! Also we get to have a 20-30 minutes of one on one time with Tri-point, Tindol and Protomotive race teams.

Plus, my dealership is having a car show for our membership! It should be a lot of fun.

Also, on April 1, we'll be running the wife's hatch and the Speed Protege @ Mid-Ohio at the Redline Track Event...so we have a busy schedule this year as far as meets and the like...the more the merrier!

See you on the 18th!

hmm.. I may take you up on that ohio offer. It depends on the job/moving situation though. If I get a job this week (I have two interviews thursday) I'd be moving up to CT either before or on that weekend.. We'll see. I'd be game though.. where in ohio is it?

Mid Ohio is halfway between Cleveland & Columbus...roughly an hour South of Cleveland.....Most people are staying in Cleveland area, near my house.....

Some of the Toronto people will be camping near the track.

jersey_emt, i have yet to do a fun run, and honestly a lot of the SRT's around my area are more concerned with drag racing rather then some nice curvey roads. I'm down for both, although my car is going more towards drag racing, i can put the stock wg back in and i'll be good to go. Would i be able to attend or is this a mazda only meet?

alright, well if everyone is caravaning in and possibly meeting up in harrisburg, the best way to meet up with the PA locales (manily me and brad etc) would be plymouth meeting.. it's around the corner from me and its right off the turnpike (the road you need to get out to yardley where the run is.) It's about 40mins to yardley from plymouth meeting so it's not that big of a haul. Most of the people are coming from jersey, so they won't be around till saturday. But I'm game for chillin' on friday night. Plymouth has a lot of hotels and restraunts and whatnot so we won't be at a lack of stuff to do.

welp, I don't have a problem with you showing up, provided you don't invite 20 of your closest SRT buddies.. I lone SRT won't be a problem. As long as you're ok with taking a good natured ribbing from the mazda guys there (2thumbs)

I am the only one in Harrisburg that I know of. So maybe it's best if I just drive and meet up with others.

The way I saw it was, whoever would just tell me the approx. time they were going to pass the Harrisburg West exit on the Turnpike and I would jump on the Harrisburg East and just wait for them at one of the "Turnoffs".

well maybe not the back back of the pack, but i've driven an mp3 extensively as my friend used to have one, and the fact that it has a lot less power then my car means nothing. Balance of the chassis is the great equilizer here, on a real twisty road he would have ran circles around me if he still owned the car.

Trust me, he is very open minded when it comes to cars. There won't be any ragging from him or anything. Plus, he got MP3 Seats in his car! Ninja yo! ha Ha. He has a swap so he should be able to keep up with a few people(I know he can beat mine).

To everyone who is coming: It looks like we are going to have a great turnout for this meet. Please understand that although we do not discriminate from people attending, this meet is geared towards Mazdas. When the turnout is very large, it makes things difficult for the pack to stay together. If you are not driving a Mazda, please understand that preference is given to Mazdas, and I may have to ask you to not participate in the run. Of course, you are more than welcome to come to the meet and hang out with us afterwards. And you of course can ride along with any of the Mazdas in the pack for the actual run.

This is only if the turnout is huge and I feel that there are too many cars to have a successful run. In all likelyhood, anyone who shows up, Mazda or not, will be allowed to participate. I just want to bring this up now so people are aware.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM.

Thanks!!

Very understandable!

I'm extremely excited for this meet as it will be my first and my first time meeting the Mazda community! Should be a blast and I am glad that it seems to be a large turnout!

If you think this is large, you ain't seen nothing yet! While this is definitely a very large turnout for a fun run (usually we get about 10 cars on average, right now we are looking at 15-20), we have had some much larger meets before! Our biggest so far was a BBQ back in Spring 2004, before we were officially a club, which had 75 cars and about 120 people in attendance. I intend to smash that record this year...keep your eyes peeled for more info on this year's 'mega-meet' as well as everything else we will be doing. :) :) :)

I wasn't saying about this being large. You said about it being larger than expected. Maybe my wording wasn't nessasarily correct.

Yea, meets I used to plan for Team Sol PA averaged about 10 cars and our biggest meet was 24 del Sol's...

Just glad to see that this meet isn't going to be just 5 or so Mazdas. Ya know?

Oh well, I am still excited. I plan on attending any meet within a 4 hour drive this year so I can get to meet new people!

Nah I knew what you meant, just doing my bit of marketing / advertising / promo sort of thing ;) Things are shaping up to make this year the club's best!

You have to go where the people gather, seems to me there is little involvement/participation with Ohio owners in both the 6 and Protege communities.

We love our cars and the people we meet from all over. My feelings are why join a community or anything else for that matter, if you don't participate or make a commitment.

See you in a couple of weeks!
