But at lest they confirmed that it will have the 2.3L and not he 2.0L. (thumb) Although I'm pretty dissapointed that it's not AWD, I love the aggresive look of the car.

The 2.3L has been confirmed for a long time.

if they did give it AWD, they would pretty much kill their mazdaspeed6 line.

The Mazdaspeed6 seems to be made for the 35-54 crowd anyway. I don't think they would hurt too much by making the 3 AWD. It's marketed toward an entirely different segement of car buyers.
I hope they have different wheels too. I am not that big a fan of the multi-spokes they put on it. Those are the same as on the Mazdaspeed6, no?

they are different the ms6 wheels have more of a split spoke pattern then just multi spoke... they are 18 and prob lighter then my stock 17's (at least i hope) so i won't complain to much

the thing is that the awd would make the car more of a porker then it already is i think thats the key difference is weight...but that could just be my 2 cents.

Its seems to me this is aimed more toward cobalt SS, Dodge SRT-4 line, and things like that but if it comes with a handling package like the MSP/MP3 came with and the 2.3 DISI engine then it has the potential to blow both those cars out of the water

what a letdown, no awd and no sedan. hope it can beat a srt stock for stock and has a stronger lsd than the MSP.

man this really bugs me, i was so excited about the ms3 and thought it would be the kind of car i wanted. it looks good but damn i was ready to trade in my speed and sell my mods for a AWD sedan Mazda3, I would have rather had AWD and the normal 2.3l n/a, at least i could fix the HP problem, i dont wanna gut a new car and go through insane headaches for a awd swap. why cant mazda make what im looking for, awd and not a porker. ive been in love with mazdas ever since the days of the 323 GTX/R(why they wouldnt bring the awd 323s to north america for more than a year sitll baffles me), but it seems like the only way i can have my cake and eat it too is to buy a subaru :( Im all for showing brand loyalty and this is my 3rd mazda im on, but I live in canada and im getting tired of spinning the front wheels half the year and smoking em in the summer. hope it at least beats its fwd competition (cobalt ss,srt etc) but damn, im certainly not trading in my speed for a wagon with an extra .3l. sorry for the rant, go mazda, your still my favorite, just make something lighter than the ms6 and AWD thats worth trading in my MSP, otherwise I might as well be saving for the $ dfference on a new WRX (poke)

pretty much the way i feel tool. total disappointment. from the hatch, to the tmic, to the wheels etc...the next thing they'll say is it comes with a "fantastic" BOSE stereo system.
yawn.

I'm a sedan driver, but this car can easily take me over to the Hatch side. I mean the thing is awesome looking. AWD would have made it own the auto-cross, but it'll still have the best torque and handling in its class. I think the critics and naysayers are gonna fall in love with it. I can't wait to drive one.
And them saying it's the Euro-spec one, does anyone know the current differences between the Euro 3 and the NA 3?
P.S. you can answer that question or not. I just thougt of it and will be doing a search now. ;)

It should easily handle the cobalt, but the new srt-4 will have 300hp.

Only very minor visible differences between Euro-spec and N. American-spec from those pictures:
- N. American-spec will not have headlight washers
- N. American-spec will not have MPS badge at bottom-right of hatch (replaced with a single Mazdaspeed3 badge at bottom-left of hatch)
- N. American-spec will not have rear fog-lamp. That's why you'll notice the left-rear taillight in the picture has a red light housing where it's a clear reverse taillight on N. American-spec - the Mazda3 in Euro-spec has non-symmetric taillights (inner left taillight is foglight, and there is only a single reverse light on the right taillight - and these positions are swapped for UK since UK is righthand steering)

Yeah, the Cobalt SS will get dusted by the MS3. Shoot the current 2.3 is so torquey that a compentent driver can take an SS off the line right now. I know cause I've done it ;)
I was referring to the current differences between the 3 here and the 3 in Europe. Not the MS3 which we don't know anythig for sure about yet. Other than what Mazda has released.

Both the SS cobalt and SRT-4 have TERRIBLE handling charactaristics. They both sit WAY too tall, they aren't very wide, and lastly are using ANCIENT suspension components. My stock ATX 3 with 18's outhandles both of these cars EASILY(both of my friends have one of these cars and I compete with them ALL the time). When I think of Mazda, I think handling first, then hp/torque, etc etc. These cars are going to own up the FWD segment of autocross and time attack competition, simply because it has gobs of Torque, LSD, 6spd manual, large brakes, wider stance(wider than the current 3's), and a relatively low ride height.
