This is a report assembled by the Michigan State Police (MSP, lol) rating various performance attributes of available police cars. According to them, the best 0-60 time of any production police car this year is 8.15 seconds, and the best top speed is 128.

Or a bicycle for that matter. One of the funniest things I've seen was a guy on a Harley being pulled over by a cop on a bicycle.

It's called a helicopter...If they have one of those in the air it doesn't matter if the cop is on foot...Your ass is going down.

It's heavy on the road, but driving it you'd never feel it. My bud has one and it's a blast to drive. I'm not used to that much hood..

I was on my bicycle and was pulled over by a Crown Vic from the street as I was riding on the sidewalk. I actually thought of "running" as it were, as I was 15 and quick as hell on my bike, but I looked ahead and saw a bike cop circling around.
If anyone watches COPS for any length of time, you'll see how slow the cop cars are. It's not bad enough that they're slow in a straight line, they have to be slow in corners. There was one cop chase that comes to mind where a guy in a '93-'95 Civic sedan was able to outrun a cop just by making tight corners using momentum and every little bit of that 1.6. It was actually comical, because the cop car was right behind him then he goes through this tight corner with curbs, it was a 180 degree turn around, and you just hear the cop car's tires skidding and when the cop finally makes it through the corner the Civic was almost out of sight.
Of course they did catch him because he freggin hit a fence on the highway exit.
I'd never run because I don't want my car being destroyed in a pit manuver or with spike strips(though these are easily avoidable). I do give runners a thumbs up for giving me something funny to watch on TV though.

nobody is faster in their car as a PO talking positions on a radio... speed never has been an asset to police cars, they are built to be a little stronger in motor/suspension just to survive the lifestyle they have to.

Technically, you're piloting a vehicle on the sidewalk. It's illegal.

Evidently I was tresspassing on a Sunday riding through an office building parking garage and parking lot. There were sidewalk "ramps" and bumps and a few stairs that I was riding my Raleigh MT-7000(which later the rear shock assembly broke and I returned it and bought a Giant DS-3). Just enjoying a beautiful day using my full suspension bike on an empty parking lot. Well, this security guy in a Cavalier started following me around, so I started doing "fly-bys", just riding off, then jumping right infront of his parked car from the sidewalk at like 20mph. Just having a blast. He honked at me a few times and tried to watch me but I was riding all over the place that he was pulling U turns and stuff. It was hilarious. Thinking nothing of the rent-a-cop in his Cavalier I kept riding and he dissapeared. This lady came out of one of the complexes and started yelling stuff at me but I couldn't hear her, so I ignored it. I got bored and started heading towards the exit and then heard siriens and started going faster to get out of there, thinking something was going on because the lady was yelling at me and the Cavalier was trying to get me to leave...I didn't know what was happening, so it was time to go somewhere else.
I pull onto the sidewalk and ride like mad up the hill as the sirien gets louder. I then here screetching of tires and the noise of a Ford V8, turn around and this cop car is in full chase mode heading my way. At the time I still didn't know that he was after me. He passes me as I'm going like 15-20 then slams on the brakes and yells at me "STOP THE BIKE!!" So I lock the brakes up just about do a front flip and just sit there. He gets out and is being Mr. Tough Guy, saying that I was tresspassing. I asked him if there was a no-tresspassing sign, because I didn't see one. He said that it didn't matter because I was told to leave. I said that I was never told to leave(ok, so the guy in the Cavalier was a hint, but he never said anything to me) and that I was just riding around by myself and not causing a problem. He said that I cussed a woman out and that she told me to leave. I told him that I never cuss and that I couldn't even hear what she was saying and that I was moving on my bike at the time. He didn't believe me. I then told him that I was heading home anyway, so his "show of force" was unnecessary and that he might want to move his cop car as he was blocking not only the right lane of the road but a portion of the left lane, even though there was barely any traffic on the road and people were already driving by. He told me that if he tried to move his car that I'd run from him at which point I pointed to the bicycle cop and said that I couldn't get far. Cutting me short he took down my phone number, age, and asked me where I lived. After telling him he told me to ride home immediately and that he would call my parents some time later, and that I should tell them what I did before the cop did.
I fly home and barely get in the door when my dad says "I heard". Knowing that I'm not a problem child, my dad just told me not to ride there for a while and that the cop was blowing things out of proportion and that I wasn't in trouble or anything. I said ok then just played Gran Turismo for a while, and that was that.

No it's not. That would mean people on Segways would be constantly pulled over. Where I was riding the road had no shoulder and it's not very safe to ride on the road. On other streets I would leave the sidewalk for the shoulder when there is foot traffic on the sidewalk, then go back to the sidewalk when it was clear, more out of curtesy to the walking people.
It's illegal to "pilot" a motorvehicle on the sidewalk like a moped or go cart. Bicycles are fine.

Really? I thought that, at least in NY, skateboards and bikes weren't allowed on the sidewalk.

Cop cars may be slow, but most law enforcement officers have something most us don't have.....Training. Aggresive driving training, Evasive manuever training etc. A couple of my friends are officers of the law. Santa Clara County Sherrif and San Jose PD. Both mentioned going through a good amount of training in the academy. So unless you are a stunt car driver and just plain stupid. DON'T RUN FROM THE LAW. Just as it was mentioned earlier "you can't outrun the radio" and just because you may have gotten way once before, it doesn't mean you'll getaway the next time.

yeah, outruning now compared to the 60's and stuff is impossible, All they have to do is use their radios, and your done, and if they really want ya bad, the chopper will constantly follow, so if your going to do something stupid, acccept the consequences of your actions.

There's still hope though - if you have a sport bike you might just get away. I was watching one of the cop shows(not COPS, it was something similar but I don't recall the name) and the cops roll up on this guy on a sport bike sitting in a driveway. He sees them and just blows right past them. After they turn around he's almost out of sight. More cop cars join in on the fun and the guy gets on the highway, then off, then on side streets and then they lose him. He completely got away, the show even said so.
But in a car, unless you are in a small town, and have a destination planned out where you can hide the car, sure, you can run all you like but there's no winning. All you do is rack up more and more offenses, piss the cops off more, then when they do get you they'll beat you to the ground. Maybe that's fun for some people?

Nope. Radio waves are part of the electromagnetic spectrum, therefore they travel at the speed of light.
Apologies for the OT.

I've run on a bike (02' R6) twice and got away both times........ Not one of my proudest moments mind you but still I got away, one would of been racing and speeding and probably reckless driving, the other would of been (not quite sure but I did a wheelie right by a cop and then took off). That was years ago and at the time is was fun, but now I wouldn't do either. Anyway, both times were cop cars and by the time they turned around I could bearly see the cop cars....
Moral of the story, run if you want but be prepared to pay... That whole speed of light thing. (thumb)

Even if you get away, if you were driving around the same area, and the same cop was driving around there too, he'd remember you.

seaside cops are dickheads. hah i was about to comment about exhaust noise level, but then i finished reading your post. yeah, they'll give you a ticket for anything. sir the reflection of the street lamp in your rear view mirror is too bright, turn it down. seaside sucks now, i only go for the clubs on the strip. the boardwalk aint even worth it
