17´s on 2nd gen, but......

Hey guys, i think this is the right place to ask.. well i`m planning to buy a set of Rev Model 8 wheels with 215/40`s but I don`t remember who told me sometime that it will damage my A/T gearbox, is that right???.. thanx 4 ur comments....

Hi, i have the B6 engine that pushes all of 115 hp´s, but the wheels are only for look purposes. Yeah i know that i will going slow but... well it´s a relief to know that i will don´t damage mi gearbox...

I think that could be the electronic part... but i see a lot of cars (for example 1.6 engine) whith big wheels and A/T gearbox an no problems, well always is good to ask... thanx people...

17s on a 2nd gen, man, the tires must be Extremely-Low Profiled..

u might want to consider upgrade your brakes...
look wise - big rims with no brakes to match - fugly
performance wise - increase in rotational mass should be matched with an increase with braking power.

throwing on bigger brakes will also make your car slower and not just while braking.

I used to have 17s on my car with no probs. They were low profile tires (205/40ZR17). I think I still have a pic of it in my cardomain. I like the look but it wasn't worth it for the extra Z5 slowness and rising gas prices. Had the rims for over 2 years with no problems.

Switched to light weight Miata Rims.

I've got 17's with little difference in torque, I can tell but if it wasn't your ride you wouldn't know the difference. I know we talk a lot about 1.5 and 1.8 but come on................4 cylinders is 4 cylinders, I have an shortram intake which helps and soon to be a 2.0" catback magnaflow which I've read on other posts (2.25" catback) that it did help recover the loss of installing 17's. I love em, going to drop it 2.0" to eliminate the gap in the wheel wells I have 205/40r/17's with 2.75" wheel gap in the front and 2.5" wheel gap in the rear.

There's a huge difference in torque, not to mention the increased mass of 17's compared to stock wheels. On my old setup, I ran a 16.3 @ 84 on my 185/60/14's, and ran a 16.8 @ 80 on my 205/40/17's. The only change was the wheels.

4 cylinders is not 4 cylinders. The demand of a 1.5 is quite different than, say, the 2.5 in a Sentra SE-R. A 1.5 wouldn't ever need exhaust larger than 2.25", yet the 2.5 could benefit from 2.75" exhaust with an extreme build.
