So first off, I'm wondering what you all concider a rice car. I'm new to the whole car modding community and am wondering whats really concidered a rice car and why.

A rear wing thats 10 ft high and 5 ft wide. Fiberglass panels all around he car that do not match or left primered. An exhaust that is big enough for your cat to live in that make the car sound like a huge bumblebee. I am not sure why they call it rice because around here all the Mexicans do that

Its a personal thing everyone has their own definition of "rice" i actually think its a pretty played out term but whatever, mod your car how you see fit it is afterall YOUR car .....however, since it seems you would like a genral idea, the cleaner the better! putting things that are gawdy on the car like what was mentioned above are usually considered rice, but if thats what you like then more power to ya!

Riced out? so i guess in your opinion most cars on here are "riced out" as I said its a matter of personal taste. (eekfu)

anarchistchiken

He said it, it's really just a personal taste thing. If it's gaudy and look like ass to someone with good taste, it's rice. If it's a cheap, badly made ripoff part (pepboys, autozone stuff), it's rice.

In my opinion, this is what consitutes the bulk of "rice" in America; Huge aluminum wings, especially on FWD cars; Ill-fitting body kits; ANYTHING that is left on your car primer color. I cannot emphasize this enough, if you're going to buy a body kit, wait until you can save up the money to get it painted too. There is nothing, IMO, that looks worse than a car driving around with matte Robins egg blue bumpers; Excessive use of LED lights, especially on the outside of the car; Those hideous diamond plate floormats; different color headlight bulbs (yellow is not so bad, it's the blue/purple/red/green that really annoys me); Crappy audio components that are rated ten times higher than what they actually produce (anything from Sony); Weedwacker exhausts. When you see old hondas with just a muffler on the back of their cars (probably attached to piping that is more rust than metal, you know who I'm talking about) and it is louder than a straight piped, cammed V-8, that's rice.

Just because a car has appearance mods doesnt mean its a riced out pos.

some think stickers are rice, some don't
some think cf is rice, some don't
some think all hondas are rice, some don't

the main thing is that your car is indeed YOURS, so do with it what u please, there will ALWAYS be haters as well as lovers for it. But as long as u go outside everyday and say to yourself, damn, my shit is looking alright, it's all good

Wings make you slower, stickers do nothing, and anything that is there just to get attention is rice.

ChiMSP I must say, that was great, that has truelly been inspiring. I believe I'll go with the wing on the ford, the body kit and color on the pickup and the rims on what I think is a civic.
But thanx for the opinion everyone, they have helped me out in deciding what might be nice on my car.(In the far far far away future).
Prolly a nice MP3 body kit, or maybe one with a little sportier look, and some nice rims (still got the stock 16" 5 spoke alloy). And I agree with mp3moose, performace increase mod good, a flashy mod not good. :)

People have been modifying their cars since day one. It's all about making it your own. If you like how it looks then screw everyone else. I have my own personal limits (basically like anarchistchiken's, performance first) but we all do. Bottom line, it's your money and at the end of the day, if you can stand looking at yourself in your car driving by store windows, then it's all good. Just accept that there will be some who laugh at you for whatever reason.

Oh yeah, almost forgot the most important part...and if your gf can stand being seen in your car!!!!! (or in my case driving it, I have to pry the keys from her hands!)

last two pages of this thread is nothing but crap....mostly.

Rice is (to my understanding):
1. stickers on the car that do not represent the advertised car part on that same car (wether its cosmetic or performance wise)
for instance...the famous "Type-R" stickers on an old beater honda civic.

2. huge or not so huge aluminum wings that do not serve any purpose what so ever (keep these wings on race and indi cars)

3. oversized exhaust with which you just not gaining but losing power
for instance...N/A protege with 3'' cat-back exhaust (just an example)

4. car with just a muffler (not full exhaust) that is obnoxiously loud.

5. Someone mentioned unpainted body kit.....Yes if you're just putting on the unpainted body kit and just leave it the way it is, thats rice. BUT its a part of the process when you're putting on the body kit, maybe a bit unconventional but some people do it. NORMAL people but the unpainted body kit on to test fit it, because if you paint it and then put it on and body kit doesn't line up in few spots, it will cost you more money to get another same body kit, because some companies don't offer money back guarantee if the body kit was already painted.

There are few more things but these 5 are the only ones that I have in my mind right now.

Led washer lights, neon license plate cover, a pep boys/autozone metal wing on a stock car, and altezzas (except for the IS.) I saw a 2005 Chevy Silverado at work with altezzas, and it made the truck look so...cheap.

IMHO rice is making your car look like a race car, with a stock engine.

I personally don't like bright body colors. altezza chrome style lights on any car thats not silver white or jet black. big a$$ wings that are twice the size of the car its on is a negative also.

I'm currently rebuilding my Protege, which is dark green, with green leds in the mirrors as turn signals, jdm style black turn signals on the front. blacked out grille and blacked out emblems in the back. (I stripped the ES stickers on the fenders already, I'd strip the badges on back if I didnt have to fill in the holes and get the trunk lid repainted. I'm going to buy some altezzas and refinish the chrome with black to match the front turn signals and soon to be matched headlights. I want a MS style front fascia. maybe even side skirts.. but other than that, nothing but stock LOL.. I could careless if anyone thinks thats rice. I'm working on a few engine mods before I lower the replacement engine into the car. But I don't like to advertise performance parts on the car.. personal preference

I bought the car w/ the GReddy on the side and it actually had Alpine on the back triangle windows as well (took off). STILL nothing GReddy on the car. I just need to get something GReddy, then I won't be rice, right?? Either way, I don't really care, 'cuz I like the way the sticker looks. I don't claim to know a shit-ton about these Mazdas or cars in general, I certainly know that a fat-ass wing or some silly graphic is not going to help performance-wise. To each their own; if you classify rice as the look of a car, I absolutely have some rice tendancies, so to speak. But I believe it is more than that, there are also Ricers out there who think their '95 automatic Honda Accord with a 4" tip is going to pull on me. And when I smoke his ass, he would tell me he "missed a shift."

In my opinion a Ricer is a car with 5ft HIGH WIng with a muffler big enough to fig your head in with like 1,000 stickers all over the windows and those fog lights that don;t even match the car to begin with.
Oh and after market body kit that is still primered!

This topic has so many opinions and theories that get blown out of proportion over and over, etc. Honestly, the term "ricer" comes from those who are insecure about someone else's way of expressing how they "decorate" their vehicle.
Sadly, many people make fun of those who try to be different. It isn't "going with the flow", "following the norm", etc., that people find so threatening. There are so many situations they we take part in everyday that came from someone else doing something different. Does that make us "ricers"? Come on people, enough with this "ricer" term and do what you like.

If you want to put whatever on your vehicle, do it (legally of course). After all, it is YOUR vehicle and no one can take that away from you. Remember, you aren't always going to do something that everyone likes, and that is the best part about it.

rice is when you take short cuts. Keep your car clean. When gets to the point where most of the stuff on your car does not match with one and other and you have decals on your car of stuff that you don't own then you are a ricer. Buy parts that actually serve a purpose and actually work rather than just a bunch of junk. Stay away from SUPOKUM. I think I spelled it right. But honestly its your car and your money so do what you like.

I agree, but not noticing a turn signal may have something to do with not paying attention to the situation (s) around you. And, I am one of the few, here in Edmonton, that actually uses turn signals. So, they won't be that hard to notice, (lol2).

about the blue bulbs, i have the xenon lights with the hint of blue in them(which i also think is ricey for a knock-off H.I.D) so the whole headlight looks blue. ive actually been pulled over here, and the officer said they were cool. blue corner bulbs r not as bad as the H.I.D brightness of newer vehicles. if i had 100+ id buy some...all purple n stuff

drifting in FWD is also ricing...j/k...:D
