If I removed the housing containing the harness from the factory fog light would I be able to retro fit it to this:

I understand that the bulb is the wrong size.

After searching for a very long time here, ebay and google, I came to this craptacular alternative.

What do you think?

Probably not a good idea. Those are actual headlights, not fogs. You'll end up with 4 low-beams coming off your car. Not to mention having to find some way to mount them.
You are probably better off getting a set of PIAA's.

But if I upgrade the bulbs, disassemble the factory mounts, I may be able to make them work..... I don't know. Can't really do it with the weather we are having lately anyways. The search continues..........

I am lacking the part number to answer that, seems everyone says get the PIAA but no one says what kind. I have been on www.hella.com for awhile today looking and so far haven't found much that would work.

PIAA - 12V - H3 85watt - 520 Series
- ION Chrome Housing Fog (5261) Driving (5263)
- ION Black Housing Fog (5291) Driving (5293)

PIAA - 12V - H3 55watt - 40 Round
- Clear Driving (4062)

It's the Piaa 530 or 540's... let me take a quick look...

Yup, ok- the 540's. I don't remember exactly how the stock fogs bolt up, but I think they're very similar. Size should be just about dead on. They're not cheap, but they're good. I think you can take that cover off, too. :)

(lol) (lol) :) :)

Yeah, they link in the first post aren't even fogs. They're "sealed" headlights for older cars like the '80's BMW 5-series. Just having a little fun on a Friday night. (cheers)

Any pics of the PIAA 540 on a Protege 5 with covers on. I'm thinking about replacing my fogs with the PIAA.

and if I am wanting driving lights and not fogs, and they fit........ The measuremets are right on it, and they come up after searching under Make, model, and year.

The word retrofit was used. I am still going to attempt it once the weather improves. Worst case scenario, I waste twenty dollars and two hours of my day.
