Well, I need a SRI soon so that I can install my FMIC. I realy want a SRI vs. a CAI. And I did alot or research on TurboHoses SRI. Though, the price is rather steep, I want to know who is curently running this system, and if so, how do you like it? Or have you compared it to the other companies out there?

thanks,
Ian

I have it, no issues at all. Since you live close, if you wanna take a peak let me know.

I like it way better than the Injen CAI.

Cool.

I should be around all day on Sunday if you want to take a peak. Otherwise, next week pretty much any evening would work for me.

You going to be around Sat or Sun?

I think I am one of the only ones to get the SRI, most people said it was over priced.

Yea man, I work till 6 on Sat. and 7 on Sun. I was hoping to hook up with you and check it out and stuff. I know its overpriced, but it may be worth it.
Let me know.

thanks

Where do you work again? I wanna say best buy...but not sure.

If it's decent out, I could drive the MSP up there and give you a peek.

I would recommend against an SRI, not specifically the Turbohoses one, my data is based off the Perrin SRI.

2 friends and I did some datalog test on our cars. Test were done one day apart, but in similar weather conditions.

Cruising 80mph:
My car with Perrin SRI - Intake temps registered 100-105 degrees
Friends MSP with Stock box - Intake temps registered 80-85 degrees
Friend with Injen CAI - Intake temps registered at 60-65 degrees

That's a 40 degree diference between the two products, more than enough to effect performance. The higher temperature readings made the car pull timing even further leading to increased hesitation.

I also experienced fuel cut a lot with the SRI. I think having the filter so close to the MAF would cause it to freak out when the boost level shifted. In really cold weather I would sometimes hit fuel cut at as little as 2psi.

I've since switch to the Injen CAI. Hesitation is drastically reduced. It's a night and day differance. I've also never hit fuel cut below 10psi using the Injen.

I would recommend doing more research before making your purchase, or trying to find a used one first.

How can there be such a huge difference between the SRI and CAI?

Not that I don't believe you at all, but it just seems odd.

My Comments....

The Perrin SRI filter kind of sit's more in the middle, where as the TH SRI is place right over the hole in the wheel well where the CAI would go down. I think that helps quiet a bit.

As for fuel cut, I used to hit it all the time with the CAI in the cold weather here in MN. After the DSM AFC though, I have never hit fuel cut. But I never ran the CAI with the AFC. I never hit fuel cut with the TH SRI though, even before I got the AFC. It wasn't winter though....but it was pretty cool out.

I think the numbers for the TH SRI and the Stock Air box might be more similar....as the snorkel for the stock air box is pretty much where the TH SRI filter sits.

Just my thoughts....

You just answered your own question. The Perrin has the filter sit back a little so it get a pretty direct airflow from the hot fan/radiator air.

You can PM JDM Sam or Chckmagnt on these forums, they were the other two test subjects.

I'm not familiar with the Turbohoses location, but if it's not in the direct path of the air blowing through the radiator it won't big as big a difference as with the Perrin. If it's where you discribe, it's probably in the best possible location for a SRI.

I'm pretty sure the DSM AFC comes with an integrated FCD hence no fuel cut. I expect MN winters probably are too cold for more than 7-8psi with a CAI. however an Injen CAI will allow you to run both - SRI in the winter and CAI in the summer

You'r probably right with that filter location, there's shouldn't such a drastic difference.

One other thing to note. I'm on an UNFLASHED 03 msp. So I allready have retarded/pulled timing compared with you guys. So when the temps rose and the timing got pulled even further the hesitation got really bad. Car would bog down between 3000-5500 rpms, then roar to life and pull hard for the last 1K. With the CAI I get clean pulls above 4K rmps. Unichip on order now though so clean pulls throughout the powerband here I come ;)

However I've been able to run 11-12psi with no detonation in 50 degree weather. I wouldn't try that on a flashed msp.

Also I got my Injen used for like $120. Not sure how much the TH SRI is, but I feel like I got a good deal.

$120 is a good deal for the CAI.

I like the Injen CAI and the TH SRI. I think both are good products that will put down similar numbers.

the shortest path to the turbo is probably the best solution. that's why you see so many turbo cars with very short plumbing for the intake. too bad there are no kits out there that are made for MAF relocation in mind. i'm sure just sticking on a really short pipe and a filter to the turbo will help with spool up time.

i have the injen cai and i like it. although i don't have much of a comparison as i haven't tried any other intakes out there.

Close but no cigar. I work at Circuit City, right next to the Maplewood Mall, on County Rd. D. Yea, if you can come down, that would be sweet!

Iff you just park in the back by car audio installation, youll see the blue beast parked there. And you can just walk into the shop through the door next to the three bays.
