Car & driver say stock or not? Most likely stock. Surprised even that good on Dunflops. I'm sure you can get better than that depending on suspension/tire mods.......

The test was done on a brand new stock 2002 P5

Eh, the skidpad is more a measure of tire and surface performance than anything else. A better measure of handling performance is a slalom or that figure-8 test that motor trend does every once in a while.

A good set of tires and a rear swaybar would probably up those numbers a lot. Although .79gs isn't bad for a wagon on narrow all-season tires.

Yeah,I was about to say that was bullshit.Since when does a car w/o sport-tuned suspension suspass the handling of a Evo MR,STI,Skyline GT-R and especially an Elise,LOL!!

exactly. I'm pretty sure it's a good deal more than that w/ just stickier/wider tires.

That sounds about right. Now for the followups:

1. How long can the car go around in a circle at that speed before the engine seizes because all the oil has sloshed to one side of the pan and none of it is recirculating back into the motor?

2. Will the engine seize if the direction is clockwise, counter clockwise, or both?

3. What is the most G's the car can pull, and in which direction, before oil starvation sets in?

4. There are baffled oil pans available for the P5 that minimize the effect. Are there any mods for putting another oil drain on the other side of normal pan, so that oil goes back through the pump and into the motor no matter which way the car is turning?

1. There's only one way to get an authoritative answer to this question. I doubt you want to be the first to find out.

2. I don't know, I've never had the pan off to see what side the pickup is on.

3. Agan, you'd have to test to destruction. Or at least keep a watchfull eye on an oil pressure guage.

4. Another pickup tube probably wouldn't help unless you added another oil pump. If you had a y setup but only ran one pump, when one side of the y sucks air the other side is going to loose suction too.

Plenty of us autoX and whatnot without disasterous results. I just run with an extra 1/2 quart in the pan and it seems to keep the motor healthy.

Driving in a circle at the limit of adhesion for an extended period of time is probably just a bad idea in general. What did you have in mind, if you don't mind my asking?

Yeah, I thought it would probably be more complicated that that, but thought that there might be some sort of valve system that could do the trick.

Just wanted some background info. I very rarely drive this hard, but there have been reports of P5 blowing up from oil starvation following (or during) aggressive driving through turns, so it would be nice to know at what point the oil starvation kicks in so that it can be avoided. If I drove hard on a course I'd worry more about the cumulative effect of brief bouts of oil starvation rather than one catastrophic failure. On the other hand, driving around an oval really fast might make this a more immediate problem!
