View Full Version : Anyone ever get compliments on their P5?

I was just over at the Miata.net forum, and they have a thread on compliments random people have given them on their new Miata's. That reminded me of a day I was driving home from work last fall. I was at a stop light with the windows down, and a lady said that she really liked the color of my car. (thumb) I was pretty shocked 'cause I didn't expect that in my little wagon.
Anyone else get any positive comments on their P5's from random people?

i haven't had any strangers come up to me and tell me anything. but its cool when people drive real slow next to me, just to check the profile out and see what kind of car it is. (thumb)

I never get random compliments on the car, but often when people are riding in it they sing its praise.

People always used to ask if my P5 was a focus.
When i went to get gas, i went in to pay and i didnt know the pump. The cashier asked, "oh the pump in front of the Matrix?"....."eah, just give me my gas..."

I had the brakes done, and the guy brought the car around the building and he hopped out and said "that must be a fun car to drive"
I also had a very tall friend ride in it once and he was amazed at how comfy the stock seats were.

I got some old fart tell me he liked my Matrix. I corrected him, but a week later, same thing. I do get a lot of looks as I drive it though. Probably wondering if I am ever going to fix my exhaust leaks...

I get a lot from random people. Kids are the funniest. Almost everytime I drive by a group of kids playing I get the, "hey! nice car!". Just the other day getting gas I had a guy trying to buy my car, HELL NO! (first)

My wife took the Pro5 to work a while back and one of the mechanic, who's into muscle cars, was impressed with it. He thought it had "nice lines". (thumb)

i get compliments all the time...people love the style, color....often when i go to someone new to maybe do some work or something i get, hey, this you son's car? i tell know way, he doesn't have as good taste as his old man!!
i stopped at the local farm/ice cream stand last summer and was backing into a spot next to another p5 and the guy and his girl were like" hey that looks like my car, but it's lower and how come i didn't get those wheels or that head unit??? i was like "i've done a few things to it since it was new" they were very complimentry and said they were going to look into some new wheels and lowering the car too!
it's a unique car and of course they are no more being made!! (first)

Besides the compliments I get, I also get alot of folks who have no idea what my car is. It's funny how many people think the Matrix/Focus/P5 are all the same car. I just today had a coworker ask if it's a Subaru, and called it a station wagon just a second later. (boom07) I know that technically it is a wagon, but not a big Buick with wood paneling.
It's funny how some people have no idea of what cars are what if it's not a Camry or an Accord.

When I first got my car some guy asked me how I liked my PT cruiser. D'oh I was speechless. Just kept saying that my MAZDA was a really nice MAZDA and that MAZDA did a good job on making it. LOL
I get compliments on the color all the time. Most common is, who did your paint? Is that custom?

my boss told me that some may put me under "suspicion" for driving a yellow car...but then he told me he once owned a yellow neon...you tell me who should be put under suspicion...
besides that comment, i've received nothing but compliments about my p5. A lot of people ask me if it's the Mazda 3...and everyone thinks it's fast as hell for some reason. of course, that's until they drive in it. but i totally go along with it. and best of all, the ladies love the yellow car...

I came out of the store to find a note on my car. It was on a scrap piece of paper and simply said "Thanks for driving this car". I'm sure it was some tree-hugger talking about the ULEV rating... :)

There is a carwash that is like a block away from the highschool and rite next to mcDonalds.. for some reason when i am at the carwash kids are always walking by going "daaaaaaamn thats a nice car" or "love that black on black".. then i worked wiht this guy and he had a 88 or so caprice classic wiht a 350edelbrock intake and carbs.. well the smart ass got cocky one nite about how his car was so fast.. well i raced him rolling .. and from a stop .. smoked him bad both times.. the only thing he could say the next day at work was " you know before i thought you car was slow" .. to bad for him it is .. and at the local car shows there are a few girl tuners.. all of which think my car is "cute"

i came out of the store after paying for my gas and found this lady standing next to my car. apparently she was waiting for the owner (me) to inquire what the year make and model was. i let her know about the P5 and she metioned she was shopping for such a car and of course i encouraged her to find one.
i failed to mention that i slammed the P5, put mazda3 rims on with 205/40/17 tires, and an exhaust. she might scratch her head when she gets to the dealer's lot and find another P5 not quite as hot.
my mom said people were complimenting her at stop lights when i let her drive it.
and now that i moved away from home my neighbors say they miss seeing it and hearing if fire up every morning and rumbling in at night.
i walked this girl i was crushing out of the bar and we were walking up to my car so i offered her a lift to her car parked further away. she say's "is this you car?!?" and i say "yeah?! this silver mazda". she paused for a second looking at it, said nothing and proceded to walk. i knew she was disconcerted then by the look on her face! (i was too! WTF) but the gentleman in me continued to walk her to her car although i should have just jumped in the P5 and left her ass at the curb. SNAP the line let that fish GO!
if you don't have appreciation for the P5 you arn't worth the money honey!

surprisingly i have had alot of complaments on my car and theres nothing really special done to the car everything is stock except for rims, lowered, tannabe exhaust and air intake.. nothing cosmetic. i have had my windows down and people parked at the light would ask me if i liked the car and that it looks nice. which really surprised me. iv pulled up into a pizza shop once and a guy asked me about the car and told he really liked it. i work at a tea and coffee bar called tropioca and iv had poeple come in and tell me that they liked my car. theres use to be a window sticker on my car that said "WE GOT BALLS" thats how they knew where to go hahaha but than again the window sticker might have aidded in the many complaments on my car hehe

I've gotten lots of compliments on my car, probably close to a dozen or so I can remember. Most from people I work with or know me personally, but a couple from strangers too.
Nothing as dramatic as people honking at me at stoplights or anything, but if I ever give people a lift or we're walking by my car, a compliment is almost SURE to follow, and if they appreciate cars at all, they usually ask what kind it is. Its funny too, because my car is almost completley stock aside from a few minor changes. But I try and keep her IMMACULATELY clean, washed and waxed like once a week, so the bright, spotless yellow draws alot of attention, and the awesome lines and styling complete the experience. ;)
To this day though, even from the more "well-versed" car people, no one knows what it is at first glance....the most common mistake is "Is that a Mazda3?".
I kinda like that our cars are more rare that you dont just see them all over the place.
Oh, and everyone thinks its fast, too. "I bet she's fast, huh?" is a common comment.
I just smile. ;)
I used to have a lot of compliments from people, but not anymore....

Yes, always get compliments on the Laser blue color.
I've also got this guy from Canada asked me about where I get the body kit for my P5.
Our P5 look modded stock.
My dad actually asked me if the car came with the body kit or if it was aftermarket. And he's a car guy. I do like how it looks modded even though its stock.
There was one time that I was at a stoplight next to a Dodge Ram 1500 (non-Hemi) with a friend, so I said to him "do you think I can take him?" He was like "yeah- you should be able to" and I was like "I dunno- a V8 vs. and inline 4. He's probably got 100 more HP than I do." So I did the stoplight drag race anyways, and the truck beat me by 2 lengths. We pulled up to the next light and I looked over and the 2 guys in the truck were just smiling. I rolled down my window to ask him if he had a Hemi, but before he rolled down his window the light turned green and he took off. :)

Oh man...talk about identity crisis issues?
People mistake it for the Lexus IS300 Sportcross or a Matrix....I'm like no...see the badge...but I guess having the modded flying M kinda throws it off a little bit.
The best is when some couple in another tuned/modded car pulls up on the right of me. I have a habit of just checking out my surroundings, so as I'm looking around or w/e I can see the gf stretching forward in her seat to take a peak...sure it's ego-tastic...then I get a thumbs up or a snicker from the guy...ha ha....love that!

Female Friends think it's "cute"

I was stopped at a light one day after work. I had just put some black rev wheels on my white p5 and this black dude in a cadillac pulled up real slow next to me. From the corner of my eye I noticed that his window was rolling down. I looked over and he said "what kind of car is that"?
I said "its a Mazda Protege5". He then said "That car looks good" and gave me a nod. I felt pretty good for awhile.
And yeah, all the girls love the "cute" car!
