MAM FMIC or Turbohoses SMIC?

Im looking into getting a new intercooler but Im just unsure of which to get. Either the Turbohoses SMIC or the MAM Front mount. I know the MAM is teh sex but I really dont know if Ill be needing a front mount any time soon. I mean i've read that a frount mount is pretty useless unless you're boosting over 10, which Im not ready to do right now.....I dunno

If I've got my facts wrong let me know. What all will I need to do in order to run the MAM FMIC? And how effictive is the SMIC (up to how much boost?, considering I live in FL)

Ahem. Here I go with my lil' speech. I won't be able t'give you as much information as Beau or Rich (505), but I'll give you my thoughts on what I know, and with what I've experienced.

First off, you're right -- unless you plan on boosting more than stock, the MAM FMIC kit isn't completely needed. However, if you EVER plan on doing some further upgrades, the MAM would be a good investment. After all, what's the point on dropping the money now on a SMIC, when you just might spend more cash further down the line for a FMIC? Might as well get the FMIC now, and save yourself some money.

Also, the MAM isn't just the FMIC .. You also get the hardpipes, a short-ram intake, and an upgraded bypass valve. In reference to your second post, it's NOT a BOV .. It's a Boostsciences BPV, so you'll still be recirculating your air and not venting it off. It also completely replaces your stock BPV. I had it on my car for awhile before switching to my Greddy BOV -- and the Boostsciences definitely helped with the air flow. On a stock setup with an Injen intake (which I had on my MSP for a bit), while the Boostsciences BPV didn't completely kill the turkey, it did help to stifle it.

In regards to stalling with the MAM FMIC kit, my car was a crackpot and DID stall somewhat for reasons that we could never figure out. I did the installation with Kooldino, and also spoke on the phone with Beau and Rich. We were all relatively clueless, and NOBODY else ever encountered the issue. We did fix it, though .. and my car is now running fabulously.

Everything you need to install the MAM kit is provided in the kit itself. Core, couplers, piping, BPV, all of it. Really, the only thing required on your part is about a day for the installation, some patience for said install, and of course your tools.

Overall, the MAM kit has completely destroyed my heat soak (I never got any even during the summer), and has helped stabilize boost levels. And the addition of the SRI has also been beneficial .. No more having to bash around in that damn wheel well to clean or replace the air filter, and the filter for the SRI sits right below the vent in my CF hood. And of course, it's a great first step for any further engine modification.

there is a hiboost fmic (good condition) in the for sale threads right now for cheaper than the turbohoses (a guy named paul is selling it, I believe)

fmic is the only way to go :p

I think it would be easy and somewhat 'sleep' to get an upgraded SMIC and just spray it on hotter days when you need that extra power.
The MAM kit is really nice, and as stated previously, it does come with alot. I think if I could do it again, I would just get a SMIC and DIY sprayer in the event I want even cooler temps.

Good Post Rush! I would have purchased a MAM, Begi, or Perrin FMIC (in that order) if I were shopping again. I feel like I need the bling that comes with the FMIC.

I had the HiBoost FMIC on my car for a while but took it off due to going back to stock. It was a nice bling factor and everyone loved how it looked, as did I. I now have the Turbohoses and SMIC and honestly I like it a lot better. Its a little more stealthy and even at 10-12psi it holds up fine. I even think it feels a little stronger due to the less time to fill it up and the length of the pipes are a lot shorter now. It does get heat soaked but it takes a lot longer than stock to do so. Overall I am very happy with the Turbohoses and SMIC...

It looks like I'm leaning towards the MAM FMIC just for the overall package. The SMIC would be good but Im in FL & if you're getting heatsoak in KYI would be done in FL lol

I dont heatsoak that much ,but I am in my car a lot, and I mean a lot. Like almost 92k miles in 2.5 years a lot lol .... It does fine on normal driving and on trips, it was pretty soaked after an 8 hour trip to Michigan though lol

You can get CustomMSP's SMIC for $485 shipped. I have one. It doesn't heatsoak at all. I live in Florida as well.

Yo Mitsu, I say screw the SMIC for the money I am going with a FMIC of some sort. With pipes and all I just can't see spending that much moola on a SMIC.

you live in florida dude. How long does heatsoak take yo happen? In Florida, back when i was stock after it warmed up to running temp. One run in 1st or 2nd and after that the car keeps getting slower.
