When I bought it my credit really sucked so the only way that Mazda would finance it was for me to buy the extended warranty. I am not looking to get something a little bigger and automatic so my wife can safely drive it, probably a Tribute. Does anyone know whether having that extended warranty will increase the trade in value on the car? Edmunds says my car is worth about $8500, but I am going to shoot for $10k because I know that they'll have no trouble selling it for a profit.

If you get $10,000 on a trade in....that means they jacked up the price of the car you're trying to buy.

P5, depending on miles, is worth $4,500-$6,000

You won't get any more for trade-in because of the extended warranty. You can, however, cash in the remainder of it for a pro-rated amount.

And next time a person tells you that you HAVE to buy an extended warranty in order to get a car financed, tell'em to go to hell. Really, it's just a bunch of bullshit they give you in the finance department to make more money. I've financed 6 cars, and the first time they got my wife with that while I was out of town, and the second one they tried to pull that shit on me. Since then I've told'em ahead of time that if they give me any bull in finance I'm walking out.

They ended up giving me $9250 for it and took another $2000 off after the $4000 in rebates. I am pretty pleased with the deal that I got. So when all was said and done I ended up financing about 800 more than I had anticipated. So if you are looking to trade the P5 in just don't back down on the higher trade cuz if they want the sale they will move the numbers around to get you where you need to be. Plus they were able to transfer the extended warranty to the new car so I am good to 6 years 60k.

actually dude, don't insult him as he had a p5 back in the day and that is coming from experience. Some are lucky, some aren't but don't flame on people.

4-6k on a trade?? come on!!! That is rediculous. It must have over 100k miles and be stripped and completely trashed. No damn way.

It really all depends on the market. In my area there are few P5s in the resale market so the prices are fairly high. In other areas there could be 5 on every lot which would drive the prices down due to competition. Plus dealers really try to screw people who are ignorant on their trades.
