The manual says you need a special tool to install the oil filter. Is this for real or just a way to get me to let the dealer perform even the most basic maintenance? If I do need this tool, anyone know how much it'll set me back?

I'm sure it's nice to have for ease of use and prevents damage to filter housing. I use a strap wrench with a piece of rubber protecting the filter housing with no problems.

Cool, thanks. I was wondering if a strap wrench might do the trick. So, what is the housing made of; i.e.: steel, aluminum, etc.? Haven't taken the time to get under and have a good look for it yet, y'know? And are there any concerns about over-torquing the housing? I have a tendency to over-tighten things sometimes. (hand)
