STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche is ending production of its high-performance Carrera GT (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/ViewModelDetail/make=Porsche/model=Carrera%20GT) in April, after a brief but well-received run of less than three years.
The company said it delivered its 1,111th Carrera GT in late December to a lucky customer in the United Arab Emirates, making it "the most successful high-performance sports car of all time" — whatever that means.
We can tell you this much: The Carrera GT was first unveiled in September 2000 at the Louvre in Paris and went into production three years later, in September 2003. Since then, more than half of the cars produced have been delivered to customers in North America, where the car retailed officially for $440,000.
Performance is prodigious. A 5.7-liter DOHC V10 delivers 605 horsepower (in U.S. trim) to the rear wheels through a six-speed gearbox. Zero-to-60-mph acceleration is achieved in less than 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 205 miles per hour.
At the start of the car's short life span, Porsche said it intended to produce only 1,500 copies.

all that and he's using an air wrench on the lug nuts, tisk tisk tisk
I am sure it is a precise one with the proper torque. Not Billy-bob hanging on them to 120 ft-lbs!

Theres only one lug per wheel, using an impact isn't a real big problem.
Those are sweet cars, and I'm still pissed that the guy that owns the company that owns my apartment complex has one. It's silver, and I almost shit myself when I saw it sitting at the leasing office. Maybe I'm paying too much rent?
I'm never going to be able to afford one, but I'm still sad that they stopped production early.

I wouldnt buy a supercar for 440000 that was made on a assembly line, it is just wrong!

Ya I agree.... However I did just see a Carrera GT at Hoffman Porche in East Hartford Connecticut they had a black one and it wa by far one of the most stunning looking cars i have ever seen in person. Absolutely gorgeous it has carbon fiber everywhere to save on weight and the car sits on the ground completley no ground clearance what so ever sooooo nice. ahhhh

I'd never buy a $440,000 car built by the Mario Brothers...

Now that's bullshit. The only difference between you and the guy that owns your apartment complex is that he had a goal to own a 1/2 million dollar car. Set your mind to it and you'll have whatever you want.

What's wrong with is being built on an assembly line? It's still completely hand assembled, except in this case, it is hand assembled by a bunch of different people who all know their jobs perfectly. I dont see a problem with that.
I saw a black one when I was driving up US 1 in California this summer. I damn near drove off the road. It's appropriate that it was revealed at the louvre, because it really is a work of art.

It may be the end of the GT, but to look forward to the:
2006 Porsche Gemballa GTR 650 Avalanche
Flat-6, turbocharged, Power bhp (kW) 650, Torque lb-ft 605, rear wheel drive,
Top Speed mph 208, reaches the 124 mph mark in only 11.2 seconds, massive eight piston brake calipers and accordingly sized 380 millimeter diameter perforated disk brakes, sits on 19'inch wheels with tire sizes of 235(front) and 315(rear), 20'inch wheels optional, with tires sizes from 245(front) and 325(rear), Titanium piston rods, an intake system specially developed by Gemballa, three intercoolers, and a special turbo configuration.
umm yes.

Sorry, let me re-phrase my origional post. When I'm very powerful and wealthy my value system will not allow me to spend half a million dollars on a vehicle, no matter how cool it is. My max would probably be whatever the equivalent of 150k is in the future.

Ha, sorry, I didn't mean to come off like an ass. I was slightly pissed off at the moment and had a couple beers in me.
Anyway, my dream car wouldn't be that much, either. I'm more of an E46 M3 kind of guy; forced induction, though ;)

I'm actually starting to lean more towards superchargers now. I never thought I would, but I love the linear powerband. A supercharged E46 would be my ideal car. I just love the look.
