View Full Version : Got my 5!

Well, it took three months and five days, but I've finally got my 5.
Touring
Whitewater Pearl
Five speed manual
Navigation
Tint all around, and it looks good.
I'm selling the Scion on Monday.
I feel kinda claustrophobic in the 5. The xB is such a box, and is more open feeling. But at least at 75 mph, the 5 feels quite stable, where as the Scion is whining like a baby, and bouncing alot. (boom07)
Anyways, pics to come in the coming days.
Merry Christmas

Great pic!..I wonder what they are saying to eachother...
Mazda5: "Please...Tell me again...Why would anyone buy you?"
Scion: "I'm a Toyota..."

hey! that was what I was going to say... ;)
Actually, I don't think our tint is as dark. In VA, the Mazda5 is classified as a wagon, so I couldn't get the shop to put the darkest tint on it.

hopefully you dont represent the infamous skylab that stole thousands of dollars from members before fleeing.

No, I'm not that guy. The internet's a big place, so names will be used by more than one person. (boom07)
The 5 looks good with tint, but would look even better with chromed wheels. (still working on that)
The xB was easier to drive, and was quite roomy. So, I'm trying to get used to the 5's quirks...will get there soon. (deadhorse
Friends and family seem to like the car alot. The navigation is pimp. (first)

Have you 'talked' to it yet? Voice command navigation is the coolest. (thumb)

Talk to it? I yell at it sometimes!
Is there a way without reseting to the factory default, to hide the icons that appear for restaraunts and service stations?

lol
Yes there is a way, I just don't remember it right now. I think if you go to the POI screen you can select 'Clear all POIs" or something to that effect and it should clear the screen.

lol... yeah me too. The nav system has turned out to be much harder to use than I expected.
I swear the voice recognition system doesn't like my voice. I can only get it to recognize home as the designation point one out of every four tries... (dunno)

12-29-2005, 09:14 AM
Really? I haven't had any problems with mine yet. The only annoyance is after I let friends d!ck with it...I end up with 50 gazillion POIs on the screen. (chair)
Wuster, I see you're from Virginia...do you have an accent? Maybe that's why you're having problems with the voice recognition. (dunno)

Nope, no accent that I can detect. :) I'm in Northern VA, so no southern draw like the folks further south in the state.

You need learn proper 'engrish'...turn your "L"s into "R"s like so; 'you make me laugh, laugh real hard' = 'you make me raugh, raugh rear hard'

Oh, it's way worse than you think.
I'm originally from Taiwan, so english is my second language. Then I went to college in West Virginia followed by years of working in the SW PA area.
You're lucky, I can even speak the language...

Ahh, the kids like to take turns shouting "I'm hungry" from the back. To turn it all off the voice command is "POI Off" When using voice commands, I have to use that on alot!
I've used the "gas" one pretty often when I'm not in an area that I'm familiar with.
I find that they have some strange POI's as automatic - ski resort? library? I guess maybe there are people that would need those as settings? I wish it had something like "mall" or "shopping"....but that's just me.

More than five months after ordering, we got our '5 last week! First stop was the tire shop where my steel wheels and Bridgestone Revo 1's were waiting (Awesome snow tires by the way - best I've ever owned).
Indigo Blue Mica
GT
5 speed manual
A/C climate control
+
205/55 R16 Bridgestone Blizzak Revo 1 snow tires on 16" steel wheels
Our kids love this car (though my daughter insists it's a VAN -- but we'll convert her yet). No mechanical problems or noises in its first week, but the doors have frozen shut twice now in relatively mild temperatures. We'll be going back to the dealer for that ASAP.
Next mods will be parafin undercoating, proper two-tone horns, and a light tint on windows. May later convert single CD to 6-CD/MP3.
Meanwhile, I have to armwrestle my wife daily for the keys, so I'd say it's equally loved by her, too.
Cheers! (cheers)

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the forum. I just got my Mazda 5 Touring in Greensilver. My husband and son love this car as much as I do. It is a pleasure to drive! All my friends can't believe how much room there is in this car. (We also have a Mazda 626.)

Thanks for the welcome.
This car reminds me a lot of the Dodge Colt in terms of roominess. Of course, it has a lot more style and drives so much better! But, like the Colt, its size is very deceptive.
I only had the Mazda5 on the highway for a brief time during the test drive, so I'm looking forward to taking mine on the highway.

Well a couple of days before the wife's b-day and it's done. We ordered our 5 today. GT 5 spd, in brilliant black. We got $200 off and got the dealer to throw in rear bumper cover, cargo net and the rear cargo cover. Too boot, the dealer only asked for $500 down. We're freak'in pumped. Everyone on this forum has been unbelievably helpful and I would like to say thanks. So...THANK YOU!! Now to make this day complete all that has to happen is that the Shithawks have gotta win the Superbowl. GO HAWKS GO!!!

Congrats on your order - sorry about the Seahawks though.... they got robbed... I'm glad to hear though you got your dealer to through in a few extras. We were not so lucky... but post-recall, I think you can squeeze a bit more out of them. Welcome to the 5 club!! You'll love it. (canada)

I've had my 5 for 5K miles now - still lovin it!! Put the roof racks on this weekend - even though I was hoping for the eurorails - the oem roof rack makes it look pretty sporty. IMHO.

yup the Hawks got screwed. The Ball DID NOT cross the line on the 1st TD, did you see the ump :o. One arm up and THEN the other. I've never seen a TD called like that!! As well, they got screwed on 2 BAD penalty calls. That said, the Hawks didn't make the key plays that you need to make @ the big dance. It was nice to see "the Bus" retire w/ a ring, although the conspiracy theorists among us are wondering. Glad to hear you're loving your 5. We'll be driving our 5 on to the island when we get it, as the wife is from Port Alberni. I think we'll have to head out to Long Beach just to enjoy the road :)

did you hear about the recall for the 5 and wont be selling any more until they fix the problem. this is what i read the paper. Mazda is halting sales of the 2006 Mazda5 and recalling 2,700 of them because an exhaust-system problem can cause fires. 10-2-05. it is in the chicago tribune 2-5-06 paper just wanted to let you know. wilson

the recall has already happened and Mazda pulled all it's vehicle for over a month to remedy the problem. the problem was caused by heat build up caused by people driving the manumatic at very high RPM for extended periods in 2nd gear. We bought a 5spd.
