View Full Version : Looking for HP and Quater mile Numbers for STOCK P5s

Hey guys (and girls),
I've had my 02 silver P5 for about a month now, and I love it!!
But online it says they have 130 hp and it sure doesn't feel like 130.
My guess is that the 130 is at the crank.
I found some dyno runs and they had between 105 and 110 hp but with mods like intake and exhaust.
I wanna know what the stock pwer at the wheel is.
Thanks (thumb)

It's about 100whp stock I think. I don't think i've seen a dyno though.

its usually about 104whp and 113wtrq on average.
my times are near stock. i only went to 6000rpms and didn't launch really hard. i only had the intake, wires and exhaust on at the time. im sure if i ran it now i'd be about a mid 16 which is sad.

I dynoed at 101whp and 111trq with a cold air intake. My 1/4 was a 16/8@81mph.... thats with a bad 60 foot. With i/h/e, the average P5 will run a 16.6@81mph. There isn't much to look forward to at the drag strip with a P5...

What sucks is how bad the power delivery is on an FS-DE. The dyno is all spikey. Mine was like that too....actually, almost every single P5 dynos ive seen looks all choppy like that...

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it.
One more thing: does anyone know why that is? (the choppy dyno graphs)
Or what to do to fix it?

Bad fuel management for one. The stock ECU is kinda crappy.

Yeah, im thinking ECU. Maybe Mass Air Flow sucks ass?

Has anyone thought of getting an adjustable fuel regulator and seeing if it can even out the flow? Or does anyone have A/F readings to see how they look?

Changing the fuel pressure isn't gonna do much for the crappy box controlling the injectors.

There is a lot to be said about EM! Remember these are ECNO cars and they weren't built very well. Get a good engine managment system and you would see a good improvment. But the cost to HP ratio wont be good.

it looks spikey because of the increments used. if the increments were larger it would look less spikey. every car is gunna look spikey when the increments are smaller. our torque is relatively flat for the type of car we have.

will have to get a better one up later......
max HP was 113.XX and TQ was 116.XX
the runs were getting better each time as the engine was warmer!

What a pisser. My 1983 Shelby Charger ran the same....

wow, i had never heard of a "shelby charger". with a name like that i imagined a 500hp 800lb/ft beast. not a 107 hp econo-car. it went 0-50 in 5.5 second. i'v never heard of 0-50. i guess we should all be thankful for what we have. :)

I actually have a copy of that ad at home. That 0-50 in 5.5 has a ** next to it. I think it was a factory estimate of some sort. 0-60 was about 9 seconds. Not bad for 1983. That's back when "High Output" Z28 Camaros where putting out like 160 hp. (hah)
The Shelby did get me a lot of looks though. I have a picture I'll have to pull out and post. The car had a "Le Bra" and dark tinted headlight covers and louvers on the hatch. Plus, me with my mullet haircut, high-tops and acid washed jeans. Circa 1987 (thumb)

Those Shelby's are pretty quick back in the days. i used love them back in highschool. I had the 82 non Shelby Charger 2.2 back then and it was pretty quick back in the days. :) BTW, the HO Z28 (83-85)put out 190 hp. Its the pathetic 5.0 Crossfire injected 82 Z28 put out a mist 160 hp and 16.8 1/4 mile......

auto..
my mods list is somewhere on the boards.. those times were run with no back seat, spare tire, jack, carpeting, sub box .. etc.
perf mods were cold air intake, header mam midpipe with high flow cat, ractive exhaust, denso iridium plugs, magnacor wires
things that might have slowed me down,
17" rev model V rims.. not sure how much they weigh.. didnt feel that much different from stock.
I weigh in at 185lbs
night time.. about 75-80ish degrees..

Yes, you are correct. On a side note, back in '94 I found a 1982 Cross-Fire injected, Z28 Indy Pace Car in cherry condition with super low miles and was going to trade my '91 SE-R in on it.... until I drove the thing. What a friggin' dog!

Yea, those were pretty popular back in the day. I tried to buy one of these, '86 Omni GLHS Hatch, but couldn't find one at the time. http://www.xmission.com/~dempsey/shelby/sheldod3.htm
These things were super fast at the time. Great handling cars, too. Carrol Shelby challenged all Ferrari 308 owners to run against this Omni at Willow Springs. No one showed. Not surprising.

When I had my Shelby, a guy I worked with had a GLHS Omni. He let me drive it a few times. "HOLY SHIT! That thing's FUCK!N FAST" He offered it to me at a fair price, but at the time I couldn't afford it.
Oh well, I would've beaten it into the ground and gotten arrested several times anyway.

speaking of older cars that noone has really heard of my brother & I once bout an 84 Buick Skyhawk. Ever hear of them? was kind of lite and had a 2.2 4 banger in it. It was ok probably made like 90HP or something like that. Didn't have it long timing went on it and it also threw a rod. But they were little bad @$$ cars!

Every mild P5 dyno ive seen the trq number is usually about 10 higher than the hp. im willing to guess your hp is like 105 and trq 115....
The intake isn't going to change the entire character of the engine.

the dyno showed 111 and 112 though... intake and exhaust should yield those results atleast hp wise, stock is 104 so i hope i gained more than 1 whp from intake and exhaust other p5s ive seen showed like 5-8 whp gain with those mods.

With a CAI, i was 101/111, with header and exhaust....104/114.
3 hp...three! Tres!
Your numbers are just odd, its weird to see P5 numbers of hp and trq so close together.
