I've done it on my 1.6L. Its actually the same as the 2.0L how to, very simple to do. It wouldn't hurt, it made my car idle a little better. Performance wise, i didn't notice any.

OOOOOhh, thats right. I think you may have mentioned that before. I think I may have been thinking about the MAF. But since Im talking about that, will cleaning the MAF help with the hesitation? Or do I need do make that little seal thing from a blown inner tube from a bike tire?

It can, if that is the problem...dont even bother with the inner tube...buy and assortment of o-rings from home depot, find one that matches the MAF and take a razor blade and slice it in half...BAM !! perfect gasket.....
That's why I just cut my mount for the MAF out of the stock airbox...it seals NICELY

Ok, I'll have to give that a shot. The hesitation is getting worse now then when I originally put the CAI on. What could it be if thats not the problem??

Thats weird I just aquired a 99 1.6L in Texas it has a EGR on it. It also was giving a failed EGR code too, so I did the cleaning with no problems I just used vise grips to loosen the phillips head screws from hearing of people stripping them out. It helped on my car as far as performance. I have a take off stall on occassions, but its probably my spark plugs, couldnt get the wires loose to check them. My EGR had a metal gasket, If I had known sooner it was using one, I'd not have bothered buying one from the dealer before hand. Also 1/4 socket wrench really was helpful removing & installing the bolts, esp with a circle grip on the edge of the socket to turn or tighten. Not having large hands helped out too.

i plan on cleaning mine an a yearly basis after seeing how much carbon builds up after 15K miles!

steve if its getting worse, its probly more carbon and grim building up. check ur filter element.
i see two things that i believe r the EGR for the 1.6l. is it directly under the TB or is is like close to the firewall kinda under the intake manifold? when u say phillips head, it makes me think its got to be the one directly under the TB.
Oh will i HAVE to replace the gasket? i might just make one of inner tube patching like i did with my CAI.(first)
sorry but another thing. cud a more restrictive exhaust limit the EGR sticking open. it seems to happen less w/o my axleback.

brought back from the dead....
the EGR has a line going out from the exhaust manifold on the right side, i foy u car doen't have one, there will be a plug on the manifold.
