You're sure it has one, then? Not all engines have a knock sensor - my Dodge's knock sensor is my ear. ;)

All proteges come with a knock sensor.

It 'hears' premature detonation, like pinging, and sends that to the PCM so that it can retard the timing. Thanks for the info, guys.
