I just wanted to give my little review of the Hankook 404 Winter Radial. They are T speed rated. I used 185/65/15's on my P5. I've had them on for about a month now and I have to rave about them. Initially I noticed a little less grip off in the dry from a stop light under heavy acceleration (as heavy as it gets in a P5) but this was with temps in the 50's and 60's. The tire is a little soft in the corners but never howled. This is probably due to the larger sidewall. Wet traction is decent. Now onto the good stuff. I drove from Toledo to my childhood home in the middle of PA last Wednesday night. I-80 was terrible. My last 40 miles on 80 took me almost 2 hours. Then once I was off 80 the road I usually take was shut down and I had to go over 2 more mountains on 2-lane roads through state forests to get where I was going. No plows and no salt trucks were out at 2:00 in the morning and these tires performed AWESOME! As long as I was smart with the throttle going up hills there were no problems with traction. Obviously if I smashed the gas in 1st it would spin, but I'm on 3-4 inches of wet snow. What did I expect? I never slid through corners both going up and down the mountains. Heck even on 80 I was passing alot of 4x4's and semi's. I'm not bashing 4x4's (I have my truck parked in the driveway when the snow gets deep) but this snow didn't require anything like that.

I can't comment on wear yet but I've put probably 3k on them already and there is no indication of wear other than the whiskers are gone. I think they were gone when I put them on and it was 60.

Just wanted to share.

I haven't knowingly had them on ice. Very slick pavement, yes. There was alot of black ice around toledo this morning on my way to work but I didn't seem to notice or find any. I'd say they will perform as well as can be expected on ice without having any studs. If memory serves me right, the 404 is a full winter tire, not like a 1/2 winter then remainder all-season.
