View Full Version : Engine Granade
2003 LX TOTALY FUCKING FACTORY blew the hell up at 58000!
I don't know how, I don't know why but something loosened up let out all of the oil in the engine and the something shortly after took a shit.
The mechanic has yet to open up the block but his best guess was that a lifter and a piston was fubar and that its time for an engine transplant.
This is EXACTLY what I fucking needed as I am trying to keep everything off my credit cards so that I can get approved for a Morgage which I found out I could not qualify for today becuase this god damn car is showing too much debt and my damn fiance missed a payment on it so now I look like a higher risk.
If someone wants it, once I get an estimate, I am selling the damn thing for the difference of the repair and what I owe.

(shrug) what would have caused that??? sorry craig!
No clue.
She left work in Dedham, then got pulled over for doing 70 on route 3 north in Billrica by a jackass local cop. The ticket actualy says 70. Yep....70! WTF
As soon as she got back on the highway, the engine was knocking like crazy. She stopped at the first gas station off of exit 29 and the car didn't have enough oil to even put a drop on the dip stick.

that sucks... good luck... seems you may have found an engine though
Well, the block needs to be replaced. The #4 cyclinder has a nice sized hole blown into it and it score the block up real bad. So I have a used block for sale for somones project or I am going to keep it, mill it, rebuild it, and transplant it into another protege to build a boosted beast some day. (thumb)
The machanic did a great job sourcing the engine.
He found one with 9000 miles on it that includes the heads and a 1 year parts/labor warrenty for $1300. With the transplant and diagnostic time he is only charing $1900. That includes the engine at $1300, all labor, fluids, ect.
It sounded like a good price and I trust this guy alot so advice me if I am way off.
Also. so I am not as pissed, we are going to use this as a training seminar and I am going to be assisting in the transplant :D.
Is there any chance of getting this thing warrentied?

not a chance your best bet was if a shop did the oil change... sounds like you stripped your oil pan bolt. sorry man.
The oil pan bolt is fine. They can still not find the leak. They filled it up and it has not spilled a drop yet.
My only guess is that it was consuming it.

EXACT thing happened to me at 52,000 miles, but was warrantied. Oil starvation, couldn't figure out why. Hope all works out. Updates?
