Has anyone seen KIA spectra5? Today it has been second time that I saw spectra5 on the road and it looks pretty close to P5. Did Mazda sell P5 to KIA? I think I like the back of S5 little more than P5. I just wonder if S5 is faster than P5?

Chinese motor companies are BAD for that kinda stuff. I've seen multiple times, they get sued by other motor companies because some vehicles are just too close. Chrysler sued one because one vehicle was completely identical to the Pacifica. There were tons and tons of things that were the same.

Everyone does it. VW's new Jetta looks strikingly similar to the 03 Toyota Carolla's. Kia is just trying to keep the company afloat. With lack of car sales and many companies having to downsize to keep their pockets lined, it is surprising to see knock offs. If that style is selling then why not. American society loves over kill so flooding the market with a lot of cars that look alike doesn't seem to bother anyone except for the people that had that car first. Even though it is somewhat justified, it still sucks.

I would believe what you said only if you were Chinese. Actually almost all products are made in China, but the things you called "copies" are not Chinese company stuff. The label "Made in China" doesn't tell you the stuff are from a Chinese company, it could be an American company or whatever placed an order with the design + a new brand name in China, and Chinese made those. Those companies did that because it could save tons of money on labor cost, and it could make YOU think those "copies" are from Chinese, so everybody thinks Chinese are bad or whatever, and the companies who actually place the orders will be innocent.

I test drove one when my friend was looking for cars. Felt pretty good. I had my p5 for a short time before test driving the kia, and stock for stock the kia seemed to pull faster, and it shifted nicer 1st to 2nd gear than my protege (before short shifter too)

The first time I saw the zoom-zoom commerical for the protege5 I was hooked on the car and thought to myself man I would love to own that car. I saw the spectra5 commercial and thought it looks like the P5. I wouldn't mine owning one but I'd take the P5 over it anyday. As much as I love my P5, I would take the Audi A3 over it in a heartbeat. It supposedly handles as well with 200/245hp engines respectively.

I read in Car and Driver that the spectra 5 0-60 is 8.6 seconds. Thats over a second faster than the stock manual P5. Ouch(shocked) I personally think Mazda comes out way ahead in styling and overall design though.

Spec 5 rulezzz!!!! In all seriousness i've driven a stock 5 speed spec5 and they are pretty good at handling and have some good power. The motor it has is a the hyundai Beta II motor which is hyundai's most proven motor and has been around for 10 years. The Beta block is extremely strong and boost happy on stock internals. People, with proper tuning, will have no problem going over 300 whp reliabily on the spec 5 motor. Yeah it's a dead thread, and yeah, spec5 and P5 seems similar, but you guys should go test drive one it's a nice car for a good price. Oh and if ya keep it semi-stock don't forget the 10 years 100,000 mi warranty! (first)
