View Full Version : Mazdaspeed 6 Parts "Wish List" Thread *UPDATED*
This thread is where Mazdaspeed 6 owners can list parts they wish to possibly see on their car. Please limit this thread to just "realistic" parts for the "Speed 6". Please feel free to post away :)
*So far AEM is in R&D stage for the CAI stay tuned...

This thread is kinda of unnecessary.
Just say
"Every aftermarket part available for the Sti and Evo".
End of thread.

That's not the ideal way to start a "wish list" thread...(notcool)
Let's get some real ideas going here...There are a couple owners here already...I'm sure they have ideas...get them posting! :D
Ok I somewhat understood what he ment by his post...My post being eddited as we speak :)

What do you mean not a good way to start a wishlist thread...everybody knows what they want...this thread is utterly pointless.
FMIC, turboback exhausts, A/F/timing control, boost controllers, lightweight CF hoods, coilover suspension, AWD computer control, rear and front sway bars, aftermarket brake pads, clutch, flywheel, engine mounts, intake manifold, turbo manifold, aftermarket turbo, larger injectors, catbacks, springs, shocks, slotted/dimpled rotors, blowoff valves, new front/rear airdam, front limited-slip, upgraded axles, aftermarket radiator, aftermarket oil coolers, fan controllers, turbo intakes, speed/density conversions, upgraded TMIC...
You know, the same things you want with every car...don't see the point.
If owners want something above, the last thing in the world you want is to start threads driving up false demand...instead get those owners to start contacting companies, and donating their cars. CP-E is waiting with doors open for an MPS 6, but no one has contacted them with a willing donor yet. Yet I'm sure people will post asking for parts they could be designing right now....

My plans for the car (as soon as parts are available)
Ram Air Intake (hopefully Injen or AEM)
Exhaust (probably GReddy)
CF Hood (I would love it if someone made an invader style hood). I am going to post photoshop of this in a few minutes.
Boost Guage
Turbo Timer
I don't see a reason NOT to have this thread, some people may just want to talk about parts. Eventually someone will post in here when parts become avail. I would rather have parts from somewhere with a reputation. AEM, INJEN for intake, maybe GReddy for exhaust.

This should also be a thread to jump start part development and enlist MS6's needed for part prototyping etc...I realize there may be a lot of similar threads in the future but things will happen faster if we get organized sooner!
Thanks

yeah.... not sure.. I need a better photo to work from I think, but this getts the idea out there I guess.
Would a large hood scoop improve performance over the ram-air system that the hood has now for the intercooler?
Thing is molding it. remember how high the original sits with the ram air cowls. I had a similar idea but lil more smaller like the Legacy GT. If you did a WRX/STi hood scoop on the speed 6 it would need some kinda of grownd effects to make it feel more at home and not just thrown there. anyone ever think of FMIC conversion. that way you can get bigger IC w/o worrying about hood and engine clearance. Another idea is water sprayer for the TMIC.

I was thinking that in addition to the above a body kit would be nice. Something similar to the new Veilside body kit for the 6 (here is the link (http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123613229&highlight=veilside) ).

Another thing is to see if the front and rear 05 and below facias fit the speed 6. Only possible issue is the 05 and belorw grille interfearing with flow to TMIC, possible hood and grille clearance, and the tips being in a difrent spot than regular 6 cutouts. The basic mod that should be R&D real soon is springs/coilovers.

Once we finish a few backorders we will be looking for a Speed6 Donor car. We are looking at producing a FMIC,DP and a few other pieces.
Whats your vender status?

I am hoping to lower my MS6 in the spring. However, at the stock height I already have problems exiting parking garages with any significant grade (e.g. 10-15% grade). My conern with lowering the car, or adding on a front fascia fron the 6 is that the problem already present will become that much worse and make parking garages or driveways with significant grade an impossibility to traverse.
Of course, I could just never park inside...LOL

just upgrade shocks then. can't confirm the koni yellows work since I couldn't install the fronts. I know the pain cause both my cars scrape :(

Rainman,
The Mazdaspeed coilovers just slapped the MPS 6 name under the same part # as the standard 6's.
This tends to make me believe that any current aftermarket spring/coilover setup would work on the MPS 6.
If your willing to gamble, see if you can find a set of ebiach sportlines on sale from another member used. (Avoid the standard progressive ones).
The only problem I could see if that the rear shock on the MPS 6 is pretty crazy looking, which means it could be double valved and all sorts of fancy things...thus reducing its longevity could be quite expensive.
yeah if the rear suspention is same shock wise, koni yellow for the rear is recomended cause we both are currently running them ;)

I don't know about you guys but I'd love a turbo-back exhaust. Maybe some real tips for it too, unlike the fake ones stuck into the back end of my MS6...(the only part of my car I do not like)

On Page 221 of Modified Mag, GT Spec is mentioning a manifold for the Mazdaspeed 6. When checking their website for other uses, I did not see any information regarding this. Thought someone may be interested in following up on this with GT Spec ( www.gtspec.com ).

I am getting the Mazdaspeed Short Shifter sometime in the next couple weeks (I hope it helps me fix my missing the up-shift to 3rd all the time).
I am curious, have any of you guys heard about an AEM intake for the speed6? Somone in another forum is claiming that AEM has just released one. If so, anyone have a link to someone selling it?
Update of my wish list / plan (once parts are out there).
Intake - Mainly so I can hear it
Exhaust - hope to open up throttle response, and get some power gains
Short Shift - Long throws are starting to bug me.
Hood - Stock hood is SOOO HEAVY... someone please make us a lightweight hood
Summer Wheels - as soon as the sun comes out again in vancouver, I can't go back to those ugly stock wheels, but I do want my summer tires back.
Lightweight Flywheel - When my clutch goes (too expensive of an install before that).
anyone know if the Mazdaspeed one=Marked up AEM?

I was told the shocks are single valve.

I'd like to start w/ a set of coilovers and a carbon hood (same style as factory) I'd have it painted. This car needs to shed about 500lbs Im already looking. :) Oh and some non "altezza" taillights

My wishlist would be:
-Bigger anti-sway bars.
-Lower ride height with the same ride quality as stock.
-Wider tires and wheels that would improve the contact patch area but not make the car look ricey and would decrease some unsprung weight.
Basically, I would like to make the car nimbler and more aggresive looking. The car is a more than decent handler from the factory, but could stand some improvement. Increased horsepower can come after the above in the form of FMIC, more boost, less restrictive exhaust etc., only if it wouldn't compromise the stock refinement. No buzz bomb exhaust for me!

I actually just put my car on the lift, had some people over at CRD take a look at the exhaust and they are making me a custom exhaust and intake later on this week ill post a video/pics once its done. The guys who took a look at it said they thought at first it was going to be hard to do but he said it looked pretty easy after getting it on the lift. So hopefully this weekend ill be rumbling around with a new custom exhaust and intake.

No, it will not improve it. Typically the maximum air pressure in the car is near where the intercooler inlets are on the MS6, based on vehicle aerodynamics. The only other area that has greater pressure is near the windshield, but this is not feasible.

What about taking a tip from muscle cars and trying a raised cowl hood...Where air is allowed in at the end of the hood...at the bottom of the windshield...Isn't that a strong pressure area to pull in cold air?

Thats how alot of things were created. I think a smaller scoop(Mach I shaker) would fit the car better than the subie one. subies body lines make the scoop feel at home. The legacy one would also be a nice one to have custom made. Darker car would make it even more blended in.

I agree with you, about the Exhaust tips on the Speed 6, they should have made those into real tips, hopefully there will be a Cat back system that can address this. I would also like to see K&N make a drop in filter and an induction cone filter kit for the Speed 6. help allow the car to breath better,
Oh and a dynoflash would be awesome, to help unleash the already awesome power.

have you looked at the underside of your hood? the I/C is off center so if you had a hood scoop or a hood cut out it would be off center on the hood. FMIC is deffinately the best way to go....there is a lot of room in front of the radiator if you take out that lil plastic 5mph bumper guard....but i dont even know if you can get that junk off
does anyone know if a short shift kit is out for the ms6 yet?

one thing that no one has really touched on is the stock turbo. they need to sell upgrades to replace it. at 15.5 psi its already almost maxed out. i know the engine with proper management can hold butt loads of power with a forged crank and rods and the DISI. and also some kind of system to chose what you want the awd to do like the vccd in the sti.

I'm thinking about getting into one of these cars, and to be honest, im really surprised at the lack of aftermarket parts for it. I come from the audi end of the world and have been there, and will always own one. but i really like the Mzdspd6. i know its a new car, but i expected companies to be all over this parts for car. anyways, here's my wish list.
-Some ohlin's/hyperco based coilovers
-Alcon or AP BBK's
-A nice throaty stainless turbo back exhaust, maybe borla
-some Garrett ballbearing based turbo upgrades
-forged rods/pistons, beefy internal parts etc...
-a nice FMIC kit (not a fan of the subaru style on top of engine intercooler)
-beefier swaybars
i could go on for ever but theres a start. i honestly love the body look of the car so im happy with that.
